We had to watch it in HS. I was pretty inured to it from watching it several times already, so I found it surprising that some kids were actually having a tough time watching it, girls mainly.

The opening scene made me realize not how horrifying D-day was but how much gory shit I had already seen on the internet.

Definitely in my top 10 favorite movies, if not top 5.

I used the Dday scene as part of my senior communications presentation in high school. Was amusing watching the classes reactions. I did provide a disclaimer beforehand mentioning that the scene is horrifically morbid and some students may want to step outside the classroom for that portion

I remember reading a few stories of WW2 vets that were on the beach that saw that movie and couldn't handle how real it was. I think they almost all said the only thing they didn't get right was the sounds of the people dying. That shit is so fucking humbling.
