M$ has basically done that since Live came out. It was possible to play people on PC from XB but they had to be on games that used Live. There's already games that let PS4 players match with PC players.

to be fair, sony pushed for this when the 360 was leading in sales. PS4 is beating xbox one in sales now and all of a sudden they want to do it.
I personally dont want PC being cross platformed with console, because its much easier/quicker for shooters and the ability to mod or hack is way easier.
