So Turge is bringing in the 10th ranked recruiting class according to Rivals (we also had the 189th ranked class in 2012):
10. MARYLAND
2014 commits (National rank)
SG Romelo Trimble (No. 39)
SG Dion Wiley (No. 55)
C Trayvon Reed (No. 91)
SF Jared Nickens (No. 106)
C Michal Cekovsky (NR 4-star)
The Terps are building nicely for their move to the Big Ten. Trimble is a tough and proven winner who makes shots while Wiley is a big and strong wing with deep range. Nickens can stretch the nets from deep while Reed is a skinny big who has tools to emerge as a shot blocker. Cekovsky is a nice late addition and adds size and skill to their front line.
However, with Faust, Cleare, Peters, and Seth Allen all transferring, idk how good they'll be. Really disappointed about Seth Allen... I thought he would be our starting PG for sure. Everyone else I can't really blame for leaving. Cleare was going to be a 3rd/4th string C/PF. Faust wasn't quite good enough to start. Roddy Peters I thought would be better, but he has plenty of athleticism to work with, good drive to the rim, just can't make a jump shot; I think he'll be a good player elsewhere.
Turge needs to either recruit in the top 20 every year (get more 1-and-dones or 2-year players), or stick to drafting 4-year starters. If you spring a top-10 recruiting class only once every couple years, you're going to have a lot of ups and downs as kids transfer or go pro.
I also find it puzzling that Turge can bring in a top-10 class after not doing anything as a coach at MD. I mean, he got Alex Len to go in the top of the 2013 draft, but he hasn't even made the ncaa tournament.
