Just for the record, that's not necessarily true. You can be a local driver for the same companies. You can also do most FedEx/UPS trucks without a CDL, just need a DOT physical.

And you can deliver pizza or fast food using Grubhub

Or drive taxis

I wouldn't mind driving a box truck, or a mailman. I heard they quietly make good $$.

For considerably less money right? The FedEx driver that would deliver to my desk at umd said they start at 13 an hour. And that's after getting tenure in the warehouse.

Does that require a CDL?

Assuming you work for a trucking company and not an independent driver (where you buy or contract your own rig), they're typically union jobs and start at decent pay. Probably ~$16/hr. The local jobs are much harder to get than the road ones.

FedEx/UPS start super low.

The standard ones don't. The larger delivery trucks do.

If you were going that route, you'd want to look into PSE&G. They have a low standard rate but make a killing in overtime. Most of the OT is just being "On Call" which typically means taking the truck home and responding to an emergency call once in a blue moon.

Yeah ps pisses away money. During storm we were taking home $7,000 easily. All of it was standby time. Go to a neighborhood- fix the transformer and wait 3 hours until our next destination. They sure do pay good
