It sounds like she is taking you for granted. Threatening to quit could be a good thing if, like you say, it makes her appreciate the work you do.
I told her that she would either need to keep me on as an employee or pay me what she pays her other contractors (which is significantly more than what I make) and have a contract with me ensuring I'd receive x amount of hours per week. We'll see what she says. When I first started working for her she wanted me as a contractor, which I did agree to initially not understanding the implications. After speaking with an accountant and releasing how fucked I was getting so she could save a minuscule amount of money, I said she needed to make me an employee, which she did. This was within the first 3 months I worked for her. It's just crazy that 2+ years later, this is coming up again.
The last thing I want to do is be a sponge and collect unemployment, but I'm not going to have another choice if she refuses to be reasonable with me. Besides the work I do (that I was hired to do), I also do all of her billing, payroll, monthly tax filings, and IT (which is constant when you work with 2 60+ computer illiterate female nurses). Things which I get paid less to do as my incentive doesn't apply for items that I'm not directly billing to one of our customers. Once again, something I've never complained about and that I happily do.
I hope you're right. I enjoy my job, I enjoy being mentally challenged with certain projects and I really enjoy interacting with our clients and customers. I would be fairly devastated if I lost the job, I know I'd never find another job in this particular field again. It is what it is though, just trying to prepare for the worst and I've got a couple things I've already planned out in the event she decides to be completely unreasonable.
