Mmmm, I can see how it would be hard to find something you could operate effectively. Your garden variety home invader isn't going to be equipped with ballistic armor or anything, so a .22 LR can more than get the job done, and it's very consistent and easy to control.

I'd go for hollow points though.

I haven't done much extensive research, but I think I would probably go with a small to mid size Glock. From what I hear they are overwhelmingly the most smooth and reliable automatic you can get. 9mm or maybe a bit more powerful pistol cartridge.

I wouldn't be against a high quality mid size revolver either. They're just so reliable.

I'm lucky enough not to have some of the physical limitations that you're dealing with.

Idk about smooth (they always felt really stiff to me), but they are reliable.

If I was able-bodied I could see myself getting a glock, but I really like how 1911's look and feel (dat WW2 nostalgia), even though they're less reliable and trickier to take apart.
