You dont do any of that anymore?

Damn bro

There are a lot of wheelchair versions of things, but I find them all to be a waste of time. Too much effort spent just trying to keep your body stable with most of those activities. Plus a lot of the fun came from just spontaneously going for a walk or canoeing trip. You have to plan everything out ahead of time and have people help you do most of those activities.

Plus my hands are way too weak, which really limits what I can do. It's more fun to just be good at the things I can do rather than struggle to do the things I could once do.

Green = muscles
Blue = feeling in skin

My left hand has numbness in the pinkey, ring finger, and half of the middle finger. The left thumb can't pull forward because the muscle kind of in the palm doesn't work, but it can pinch directly toward the index finger. My maximum strength is probably equivalent to a toddler in my left hand.

My right hand works in terms of muscle and feeling, but it is maybe as strong as a 7 year old's hands overall.

The pinkey-side of my forearm skin is numb and my tricep skin is numb. That's how I often burn my arms inadvertently on the stove/oven.

My pectorals and lats work. Everything else below my armpits doesn't work--voluntary muscles, that is.

Oh, and the C7 verterbae is in your neck kind of behind the adam's apple. that's the one I broke

that's tough man. how is/was the emotional coping process?
You must be a strong guy.

I hope that's not a rude question

There really wasn't any coping process, not for me anyway. Once they told me I was paralyzed, I just took it as reality. I just did what they told me to do in order to get better. I didn't even cry at any point, if you can believe that. I guess because the realization came pretty gradually over the course of a codeine haze that went on for about a week.

There were support groups in rehab, but I didn't go to any of them because I felt fine mentally. Plus I had friends/family visiting me regularly, that helped.

Typing isn't the least bit hard. It's all just hunt n peck /w my index fingers and thumb.

The hardest part is hitting the left button on a game controller or the Z button on N64
