Although Tebow told The News last month that he has made improvements as a quarterback over the past few months, none of the people in the organization who spoke to The News shared that sentiment.

Both offensive and defensive players admitted that they hadn’t noticed any appreciable improvement in Tebow’s quarterback skills in practice since he was traded to the Jets in March. Tebow has been a poor practice player throughout his career. His current teammates echoed sentiments from Denver Broncos players a year ago about the lefthanded signal caller’s poor practice performance.

The 3-6 Jets’ dwindling playoff chances haven’t changed this mind-set in the locker room: Tebow isn’t a panacea.

Despite Mark Sanchez’s league-low 52% completion rate and league-high four red-zone interceptions, the players believe he should remain the starter over Tebow, who has accounted for only 132 total yards and averaged seven offensive snaps per game. Rex Ryan has backed Sanchez without publicly guaranteeing that he will be the starting quarterback for the rest of the season.

Left guard Matt Slauson, who has repeatedly supported Sanchez, made it clear that the fourth-year signal caller is the Jets’ best quarterback.

“It’s not even close,” Slauson said. “All the other quarterbacks know it. I have all the confidence in Mark. We don’t really have a choice.”

When asked about the team’s two other quarterbacks on the depth chart as possible alternatives — Tebow and Greg McElroy — Slauson clarified that the Jets really have only one other quarterback.

“We have Greg . . . and we have an athlete,” Slauson said.

But could the Jets win with Tebow as the No. 1 quarterback?

“Do I have to answer that question?” a veteran starter said, shaking his head.

To most of the people in the organization, Tebow is nothing more than a specialty player who doesn’t have the requisite skills to be a true quarterback in the league. “We don’t look at him as a quarterback,” another starter said. “He’s the Wildcat guy.”

The designation dismisses Tebow’s success in Denver last season. Despite Tebow’s magic from a year ago, the Jets still view Sanchez as a much better option and have no immediate plans to bench him, according to sources. None of the members of the organization interviewed by The News believed that a zone-read offense tailored to Tebow’s strengths can help the Jets reverse their fortunes.

“Hell, no!” another starter said. “You got to keep defenses honest. You just can’t line up in the Wildcat all the time. That won’t work.”

Tebow’s legs provide a tempting alternative for the Jets’ slumping offense. “That’s the real threat he brings,” defensive lineman Mike DeVito said.

“He’s a winner,” said a Jets source, who made it clear that even though he wanted Tebow to get more playing time, Sanchez should remain the starter. “If he stays on the field long enough, usually good things happen.”

But most members of the Jets don’t believe that what they saw from Tebow last season is sustainable. “We can’t win running that sh--,” one player said.

They think Tebow’s heroics in Denver were a mirage.

“Now we’re depending on miracles?” a member of the organization said. “You can’t play that way.”

However, Sanchez’s poor play raises legitimate questions about whether a change — if only temporary — is in order for a team that has lost nine of the last 12 games dating back to last season.

The decision-makers don’t think that’s the right course of action. “It would take extreme poor play. . . . like a five-interception game,” said a prominent member of the organization. “Something where it was just ridiculous. It would take Mark to totally just sh-- the bed and become unglued (before there was a quarterback change).”

The organization has factored Sanchez’s weak supporting cast of skill position players into the equation.

“Look at some of the players he’s throwing to,” a Jets official said. “It’s garbage.”

Said another Jets source: “I’ve seen better receiving corps in college than we have on our team.”

So, who wants Tebow to be the starter?

“Nobody,” a member of the team said.

So...

Next season, hypothetically...

If you're the Jets, what do you do for QB?

Alex Smith? Vick? Keep Sanchez? Tebow?

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Remaining, they have the easiest schedule in the NFL. While this team has not shown me anything that would make me think it'd go 9-7, they are most likely finishing 7-9 or 6-10, but 8-8 is not impossible.
My point is that they aren't going to have, say, #1 draft pick or some shit. So Geno Smith and Matt Barkley are out of the question. Tyler Wilson would be a possibility, but another team might grab him.
For what it's worth, assuming Sanchez remains the starter for the season, since a captain must always go down with his ship, at least it seems like it with Rex...Let's see:
Week 13 Dec 02 ARI @ NYJ MetLife Stadium 1:00 PM
Week 14 Dec 09 NYJ @ JAC EverBank Field 1:00 PM
Week 15 Dec 17 NYJ @ TEN LP Field 8:30 PM
Week 16 Dec 23 SD @ NYJ MetLife Stadium 8:20 PM
Week 17 Dec 30 NYJ @ BUF Ralph Wilson Stadium 1:00 PM
I expect them to win vs Arizona. Jaguars game is a toss-up but I give the edge to the Jags at home. Tennesse game is a toss-up as well, but they look more complete than the Jets. Chargers will probably win, but you never know at home, and the Buffalo game, depending on the situation, both teams might be very hungry for it.
So even if they lose out, Smith and Barkley aren't there. What do you think the Jets should do next year?
I still think someone like Orton would be a fine choice, but Sanchez was set up to fail this year and I can't blame this 4-7 season solely on him. It's hard to defend such a bizarre idea, but maybe they should grab someone like Joe Webb...? He showed potential when the Vikings played him the small amount they did, and he never really had a shot in the NFL.
Old news but why not?
Jaguars at home might be too stronk for the Jets - they're starting Sanchize which is neither here nor there. Imo it makes sense at an away game, but if the team doesn't produce for him, and they put in McElroy and the running game starts going really well again, it'd be safe to say they're as done with Mark as the home-crowd fans are. Ironically, the Jets still have like a 2% chance to make the playoffs. The good news is if they lose, I don't need to hear about them being "in the hunt" another fucking week straight, and if they win, the chances could get better!
Anyways, I think even if the Jets win, Jax will cover the spread. I'm surprised the Jets are even favored this game tbh.
Welp, glad I was wrong. Sanchez even had one or two nice throws. Which is a good day for him.
Up for gameday.
Rex "hopeful" on Tebow and Braylon. Tonight will be an interesting night. Either my team's playoff hopes are still alive, or not. We'll see, we'll see. The Titans are much stronger than their record, and CJ has come alive, and Locker might get some good deep balls against the Jets. Then again he's still a rookie - Jets D might be able to get some stuff going off him.
TWO HOURS UNTIL GAME TIME
LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
The final "Monday Night Football" game of the year isn't a marquee matchup like last week, but it still has playoff implications as the New York Jets take on the Tennessee Titans.
For the Jets, it has been a season mostly to forget. The Tim Tebow acquisition has played out as many thought it would, creating a distraction for the team, while Tebow hasn't significantly helped on the field at all. Mark Sanchez appears to have taken steps backward, though losing Santonio Holmes for the season in Week 4 and having Dustin Keller healthy for only eight games certainly haven't helped. Still, Sanchez's QBR is at 29.1 (34th of 36 qualifying quarterbacks), the lowest of his career, and he doesn't appear to making strides to be the franchise quarterback the Jets envisioned.
For the 4-9 Titans, it also has been a season to forget. Losers of four of their past five games, the Titans limp into the game having been beaten by 14 or more points six times this year. Jake Locker has flashed the potential to be a franchise quarterback, but also displayed the inexperience of a second-year starter. The pick-six from the shadow of his goal line last week at Indianapolis is a prime example of the latter. Chris Johnson has had a good season with 1,037 yards rushing, but with the 29th-ranked offense and 27th-ranked defense according to Football Outsiders DVOA, it's hard to get excited about the future in Tennessee right now.
The Jets are 7-6 against the spread this season (4-2 ATS on the road), and the Titans are 4-9 ATS (2-4 ATS at home). Despite that, the public is backing the Titans so far (59.8 percent), according to ESPN Insider's PickCenter.
Let's get line analysis from Jay Kornegay of the Las Vegas Hotel and a pick against the spread from Geoff Kulesa of Wunderdog Sports.
The Jets have done just that in winning, even if it hasn’t been pretty. They have won two straight and three of four by running as much as possible, averaging 146.5 yards the past four games — fourth-best in the AFC in that stretch.
plz sum
