I loved Al but was glad we let him go. Monday night he looked even worse than he did for us, but that is mostly due to our retarded quick pass offense that made all our O Line look OK due to the low sack numbers.
I think most rational people expected him to be somewhere between average and bad. But god damn he was a statue on Monday.
One thing that would really help him (as well as the offense as a whole) is getting the read-option game going. We tried it once on Monday, and it resulted in a fumble (Some say we tried two read-option plays, but I think the other was just a QB keeper by design). They can't run it when the RBs don't have chemistry with Lamar. That's a big part of our offense to be missing, which obviously makes the run game worse. Worse run game makes Villanueva have to pass-protect more. It hurts everything.
The offense can improve with practice, but Villanueva will always be a weak link on this OL.
