LOL

Titans guard Leroy Harris said after the game that if you take away those two sacks, Watt didn’t have a very good game.

“He’s not anything special,” Harris said of Watt after the game, via Tania Ganguli of the Houston Chronicle. “I locked him down most of the game except those two plays.”

best comment:

"Yeah, and in fact, except for those 38 points, Tennessee really outplayed Houston on the whole."

Watt was getting penetration on him most of the game. Two sacks and a fumble recovery, along with two tackles for losses against Chris Johnson - who was having the best rushing day against the Texans out of any back in the past 20 games. I'd call that another strong game for him.

J.J. Watt named AFC defensive player of the month

http://blog.chron.com/ultimatetexans/2012/10/j-j-watt-named-afc-defensive-player-of-the-month/

Texans defensive end J.J. Watt has been voted as the AFC defensive player of the month.

In the Texans’ 4-0 start, Watt has 32 tackles, 7 ½ sacks, 10 tackles for loss, 10 quarterback pressures, five passes deflected and two fumble recoveries.

In his second season, Watt has helped the Texans rank first in defense and allow the fewest points in the league going into Monday night’s game against the New York Jets.

Watt has at least 1 ½ sacks in each of his four games.

I've got a feeling Whitney Mercilus will record his first pro sack against the Jets on Monday Night. It's taking him a while to get a feel for Wade Phillips' defense but remember Brooks Reed was also a slow learner as a rookie last year. He didn't pick up his first career sack until his 7th game, and then he got hot and racked up 6 sacks in 5 games after that.

It helped that Brooks Reed got to start at OLB once Mario Williams got hurt -- you learn quicker by getting more playing time. I'm not sure if Whitney Mercilus is going to start anytime soon. I keep hoping they can somehow get him some more playing time. I'm ready to see Whitney Mercilus unleashed. This kid is special and he's ready to break through soon. He led the nation in sacks last year.

As of now, Connor Barwin at LOLB is off to a slow start through 4 games (6 tackles, 0 sacks). As is Bradie James at ILB. Brian Cushing (ILB) and Brooks Reed at ROLB are playing well. Maybe we can give Mercilus more plays for Barwin until he starts to heat up. The other option is to move Reed to ILB instead of James, and let Mercilus play his natural position. Wade Phillips will probably keep things the same since the team is winning. Don't fix what isn't broken mentality.

I just feel that Mercilus has superstar potential. I'm ready to see the kid get a shot.
