I'm going to be upgrading my PC soon most likely (unless it fixed itself).

My first impression is "holy hell that guy's gay" as soon as I heard his voice.

Right now I've got this in mind:

Intel Core i7-6700K
MSI GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Video Card

The motherboard is what I'm not sure about. I was watching a vid about auto-overclocking, which had me interested in one of the Asus motherboards, but maybe others do this as well...?

And I'm not sure if my 750w power supply is good enough. Everything else I got should be fine though.

Many mobos can OC. That cpu is excellent as well as the graphics card, although an i5 would really be plenty unless you plan on doing something processor intensive like video editing or intense drawings in autocad. What brand is your psu? 750 should be ok as long as its not crap.

Seasonic gold x750 is what I have already

I guess I'm falling for the i7 hype when an i5 is already fine for what I need. I just figured if I'm already spending over 1k I might as well get the better processor for a mere $150 more'

/looking @ this motherboard: ASUS Z170-A ATX Intel Motherboard

Yeah you're more than fine then. Seasonic make great psu's. I'd put the difference between the i5 and i7 somewhere else if I were you. What monitor do you have? Do you have/have plans to get an ssd? Both of those things will be more noticeable day to day than the i7 will be.

I have two 512mb ssd's already. I do plan to upgrade the monitor later.

Any of the z170a mobos will be fine for your needs. Just make sure you get the z170a or x and not z170.

e/ msi, gigabyte, and asrock all make good mobos too
