I'm sure a lot of people wanted Leonard Williams over both and to either wait on a better prospect or go with Glennon at QB and rely on defense. Winston was hardly an Andrew Luck type prospect that nobody doubted, there's a couple of questions involved.
Unfortunately it was pretty obvious that Tampa's offense does not play towards Mariota's strengths :/.
Luck is a once in a decade type player. The last QB who came out as polished as him was Peyton Manning.
The only question about Winston was his off field maturity. The guy is very football smart. I'd rank him just under Bridgewater as far as NFL ready goes, coming out of College. Partially because Winston has the off field issues and Bridgewater was as clean of a prospect as you could get. Bridgewater also ran most of that Offense while in College.
I loved Bridgewater throughout the whole season/draft process and would have took him #3 all day. He was a steal for the Vikings and will be a long term QB in the NFL without question. I see Winston as a very similar player. He doesn't have the strongest arm and isn't the fastest, but he's bigger than Teddy Ballgame is and Winston should do perfectly fine in the NFL from day 1.
Mariota might be able to hang in the NFL, but it's going to take a few years for him to develop. I don't see many coaching staffs being afforded the time to let Mariota, or any QB for that matter, to sit and/or learn through 3 years of hard times without being fired.
