It depends on your wants/needs gaming wise. If you want this laptop to be desktop replacement style for gaming, you will be disappointed. You won't be able to run anything new on max settings right out of the gate with that 960. If you're fine with playing current games on medium to high and new games on low to medium, then this would be fine from a gaming aspect, but other than that I'd recommend finding something with at least a 970, preferably a 980 or sli 970s. Keep in mind this will greatly increase overall cost.

You could probably save a few bucks by going for 8GB of ram as 16 is pretty overkill unless you plan on doing video processing or using autocad or another intensive program.

The processor is fine but you could probably save a few bucks here too by looking for something with a 5700HQ in it, which actually has better speeds when taking advantage of the turbo boost feature they got going on.

And ofc an ssd is preferential to the hdd, but since this hdd is 7200 rpm its not as bad as a 5400 rpm drive.

Overall, it depends what you're going for. If you want a good gaming laptop I'd say go for something a little more beefier. If you want gaming but are willing to sacrifice a bit of fidelity, I'd say for 1k this is fine. If you change your mind and don't want gaming then you can get much better specs elsewhere without the ROG stamp or 960 inside.

Ty sir.

I doubt I'll ever move away from console for current titles but playing older games like Witcher 2 or indie Steam games has an interest.

Have you played Witcher 3 on console? I forgot all about it until you mentioned Witcher 2. I might buy it this weekend.

I havnt looked into this particular computer but I highly doubt he needs to step it up any further to play games. The 960s are solid cards and almost all ROG laptops can add a second equal gfx card in place of their cd drive so it can have all the portability of a laptop but still have the power needed to game for only a couple hundred extra bucks. It needs to be plugged in when the second one is in so I would recommend treating it like a desktop and have a nice monitor or 3 to plug it into at home

Also have to remember the bigger the gfx card and more powerful the cpu the faster you lose battery, which is huge for most people.

Played it on XB1. Instantly one of my favorite games. I'm not typically into that genre and when I am, I skip dialogue whenever possible. Witcher 3 had me invested in the entire game, especially the story. Can't wait for the next DLC.

Poor, obviously. I do love Witcher imports in Skyrim, though. I wear a full suit of plate armor from Witcher 2.

I'm getting it for sure. I've heard nothing but good things. You should try Dragon Age: Inquisition. That's the last game of that genre that I've played. I wonder if the makers of Witcher will ever make an MMO like ESO.

Ehh, hard to say. It's much better at story telling. The gameplay is similar but not as diverse. The world feels as large, but there are less random events to make it feel as alive. I think you'll enjoy it, but to get the most out of it you need to invest in the story.
