A running back isn't the position to expect to get a paycut from. Their careers are shortest in the NFL usually and they get pennies on the dollar on their rookie contracts because they rarely get drafted high. Jones was 5th Rounder so he hasn't made much money and is extremely unlikely to take a discount. Linsley is most likely gone after the year. Which is ok because they had to let someone go, he's been really good this year but unfortunately the other guys are more important.

Oh 100%. Was just commenting on what nede said. But that's probably the only scenario where we get to keep him. With all the players that have contracts ending, I could definitely see them going with Williams and Dillon going forward. I truly hope that's not the case, but we haven't really seen a skill position player like him hit the market since Gute took over. Haven't had a threat like him since Ahman Green tbh.

Green and Levens probably the closest to his skill level, though I was way too young to care about their paychecks then

^Cheesehead you got any input regarding their contracts compared to the rest of the league at their time?

Yeah. Grant couldn't string more than a season and a half of good games to merit a big deal. We could tag Jones for like 13 mil and let Jamaal walk, but there are 29 players with contracts ending and the FO will let most walk I'd wager given the way they've handled the last couple off-seasons. They want their own players and not leftovers from the TT era.

God I hope they bring back Big Dog. He's Rodgers best friend on the team. The wiley vets. Could see a big overhaul between this year and next

The good thing is the Packers actually have a little bit of an advantage right now to sign Jones because they can negotiate with him before the season ends. And by Jones not making a lot of money in his career yet so far he may want to get a deal done ASAP just in case of a serious injury happens before the end of the year. It's a possibility they could work something out soon so Jones has the security of some real money to set himself up for life. Packers should 100% Tag him if they don't get a deal done. I don't see why they wouldn't unless they can't get his number to work with the cap space.

Not if they tag him a 2nd/3rd time lol. He'd be pissed but he'd also be rich.

What i meant was we won't give him any kind of contract if he gets tagged cuz it'll only drive his price even higher

They could still try to lock him up for a few years after tagging him. The yearly cost would probably be a little higher but gives both sides security. Also it would depend what tag they use on him if they do. The tag could either be used to prevent other teams from negotiating with him or the other tag would let other teams negotiate and let GB match if they wish or get draft compensation.

What I hope they do is resign Jones and let Williams walk and just have Dillion be the back up. Jones/Dillion is a much better combo than Williams/Dillion. Neither of Williams or Dillion have the big play ability even close to Jones and are more hammers between the tackles.
