Some very big positives though defensively....

1) Eagles are #1 in the NFL in sacks, which should be no surprise with how loaded this defensive line is. They should be able to get pressure all damn game with these guys. Cox/Hargrave/Jackson in the middle (easily the best DT unit in the league) with Graham/Barnett/Sweat/Avery/Ridgeway on the ends. Genard Avery had fucking FIVE QB hits while playing just 16 snaps, to go along with a sack and a tackle for loss. Get this guy more playing time lol.

2) The play of Darius Slay has been nothing short of elite. He's worth every penny. Feels good to finally have a legitimate elite #1 CB on the team again, which we haven't had since Asante Samuel.

3) Josh Sweat and Derek Barnett's development. Sweat with 3 sacks in 4 games and Barnett with 2.5 sacks in 4 games and coming off a huge game. These guys are only 23 and 24 years old respectively, while Brandon Graham (though still very good) is 32 and has a massive $18M cap hit next season. I think the development of these young guys is going to make the decision to move on from BG very easy, although I think Graham is gone regardless because of that cap hit.

It's a shame that our linebackers are dog shit though and like the worst in the league. If the linebackers were half decent this defense would be fucking legit.

So you still giving Howie a pass for draftiing Raegor over Justin Jefferson?

Raegor is good, he's just injured. He hurt his shoulder before the season which risked him missing the season opener, but he was able to recover quick enough and still start game 1. Then he messed his thumb up recently and is out again for a little while.

I like Raegor though, and that pick should still pan out to be just fine. His explosiveness is going to be much needed, even though his official 40 time was slower than expected (he put on weight for the combine) people forget this kid was clocked with the fastest speed of anyone in college football last season at 22.6 MPH and was electric despite having absolute garbage at QB in college. The Eagles will be moving on from D.Jax and Alshon after this season so Raegor should have every opportunity to shine as a sophmore next year too.

Jefferson looks good, and will probably be a good NFL WR for a long time, but it's wayyyyyy too early to say what is a hit or miss. Need two seasons to go by at least before we can really make a fair judgement.

let me clarify

Reagor's max speed in college last season was 22.6 MPH

The max speed of anyone in the NFL last year was Matt Breida with a max of 22.3 MPH.

And for what it's worth his pro day 40 time (hand timed) was 4.28, much better than the combine where he added weight. Dude is lightning fast in the video

Ya, everyone knew his playing speed was crazy fast. That 40 time didn't scare the Eagles away a bit.

They needed speed and that's what they went out and got. I can't be mad at that.

edit: although Jefferson looks like a stud no doubt. He's PFF's highest graded WR through 4 weeks in the NFL so far rofl.

Yeah I take nothing away from Justin Jefferson. He looks great and I would've been fine with them selecting either player

Also, how about the play of Mailata in his first NFL start? Dude was great and looks like he could have massive potential in this league and he's still so raw too. Howie got lucky with that pick man...

His story is awesome too.

Quote
Jordan Mailata says his family and friends in Australia were happy his first NFL start was on Sunday night football so they could watch it live at 11am and not have to wake up real early in the morning like 4 or 5am

The former rugby player when he came to America and was drafted in the seventh round by the Eagles, he didn’t know anything about football, didn’t know how to put on a helmet. And now he is the Eagles left tackle.

He says he was drowning, and now he is swimming.

Another game day is here, and another game where the Eagles are without their starting WRs
