Yea this is my first destiny and I've gotten more than 60 bucks worth out of this game already. Easily. Good game. Could it use some improvements? Yup. What game couldnt.

Is just playing through the story mode a good idea to level/gear up. Or are there any better ways?

I'm not going to pretend that the end game is super developed, but people on DTG are kidding themselves. D1 Vanilla and all 4 DLCs were fun for a while, but that wore off about as fast as this game is. The difference is that D1 at all stages was SUPER addicting whereas I'm okay with not logging into D2 all week long.

D1 Vanilla and the first two DLCs you ran the raid (and in DLC2 the Arena) over and over because you needed the drops from them to progress. DLC3 and 4 you ran things over and over because you needed the god rolls to keep up with everybody else's god rolls.

Like there's no way somebody can tell me that they actually enjoyed running a single strike hundreds of times over to chase the perfect roll on one gun. That's addiction not love, and the people spewing all the hatred don't seem to know the difference.

Play through the story as you can. When you need to level to continue the story, chase public events. Making them Heroic is the fastest way. When you complete the story you get pushed to level 20 anyway, so don't worry about base level.

Post story leveling, you want to run Lost Sectors and Public Events to get to 265. Then do an exotic quest or milestone. Once you get that drop, repeat Pub events until you can't get any more upgrades. Do another milestone/exotic quest. Repeat until 305.

Oh and save 5 blue/purple Scout Rifles per character. Doesn't matter if they're energy or kinetic.

I was more of a fan of D1 pvp, though I did play all the other stuff for the gear and cause my boys would always wanna do raids/strikes and challenges and what not. And I plan on playing more of the PVP for D2 as well over PVM.

We did grind D1 hard as fuck though. 4 people in one room all playing together was fun as fuck, good times.

I mean if you don't have a desire to do the raid ASAP, level however you want. It only matters in the Raid and NF. No PvP has level enabled.
