According to CBS Sports' Jason LaCanfora, the Jaguars are "very likely" to announce they are parting ways with coach Mike Mularkey after hiring David Caldwell as GM.
Per LaCanfora's colleague, Pete Prisco, Caldwell and Mularkey "weren't exactly chummy" during their time together in Atlanta. Prisco expects Caldwell to follow the Thomas Dimitroff model, growing "side-by-side" with his own hand-picked head coach. 49ers OC Greg Roman is viewed as the prohibitive favorite, as he and Caldwell were teammates and roommates in the 1990s at John Carroll University in Ohio.

and that's how it should be. The stupidest thing a team can do is fire the GM and keep the HC lmao.

David Caldwell named Jacksonville Jaguars GM

It appears that the Jacksonville Jaguars have their man at general manager.

The Jaguars announced Tuesday that they have hired David Caldwell as their new general manager. Earlier, NFL.com's Albert Breer confirmed Caldwell was negotiating a contract with the Jaguars to become their next GM.

"We got our man," Jaguars owner Shad Khan said in a statement. "I have a lot of faith in David Caldwell and I can assure our fans that the best days for the Jacksonville Jaguars are in front of us."

Breer reported Sunday that Caldwell, the Atlanta Falcons' former directory of player personnel, and Arizona Cardinals vice president of player personnel Steve Keim had emerged as the leaders to replace former general manager Gene Smith, who was fired Dec. 31. Keim was named the Cardinals' general manager Tuesday.

Caldwell said he's excited to be apart of the Jaguars' organization:

"I am thrilled to accept the offer to become the next general manager of the Jacksonville Jaguars," Caldwell said. "There are no bad GM opportunities in the NFL, but to work on behalf of a dynamic owner in a rabid football city like Jacksonville is truly special.
"This is where I wanted to be and I could not be happier. I can't wait to get to Jacksonville and get started.”

According to Breer, Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey's future will rest largely in the hands of the next general manager. It appears Caldwell will be the man to decide Mularkey's fate.

Shorts has also been medically cleared to play which is good news.

Blackmon and Anger made the All-Rookie Team.

Branch underwent surgery today, on what seems to be his Groin. Since that is what he injured last season and got put on IR with.

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced David Caldwell as their new general manager last week, after interviewing him three separate times for the position. The New York Jets were also interested in Caldwell as their general manager, even interviewing him two separate times, the second time a few days before he was hired by the Jaguars.

According to Peter King of Sports Illustrated, Caldwell left a nice bonus from the Jets on the table:

Included in the New York Jets' contract package being prepared for David Caldwell last Monday -- the day the club gave him a tour of the area and was wooing him to be the team's next general manager -- was a $1 million housing allowance.

In the annals of Perks Given to NFL General Managers, I would say that takes the cake.

I'm not sure if the fact that Caldwell turned down the Jets offer speaks more to the status of the Jets job or the status of the Jaguars job, but that's a pretty big deal even for New York. I think it speaks volumes about Jaguars owner Shad Khan however, and what he's trying to build going forward.

Jay Glazer reported the other day that the Jets can't even give the spot away.

The state of the franchise is scaring potential candidates off, they don't want to deal with the whole cap space/Sanchez situation.

Or be handcuffed with a HC. Any respectable, good GM candidate wants to bring in their own people and do their own thing.
