The packers are playing like the browns...lots of talent on paper just lacking the cohesion to make it all function. I am moving towards the fire Mccarthy realm...but I also watched Rodgers ignore lots of short passing opportunities, that were wide open, to extend plays.

I think McCarthy has some plays to scheme people open and Rodgers ignores them for big play potential.
I think Rodgers makes up on other plays where nobody is open due to poor play design.

The offense lacks structure and consistency due to too much ad-libbing and/or bad play calling. Is the reason for this a disconnect between Rodgers and McCarthy? Is Rodgers upset with the play calling so he goes off script and does his own thing? Does McCarthy avoid calling designed deep plays because Rodgers never lets McCarthy's offense get into a rhythm? Nobody knows the answers to these questions except Rodgers and McCarthy and their personal conversations.

Should rodgers make more 4 yard passes to the free release tight end or running back instead of rolling out for a 40 yard jump ball? I dont know the answer that question but I think that's where the offensive woes sit.

Watching the Patriots run the hyper-speed no huddle was beautiful and Rodgers can run that to perfection as well....so why dont we?

Honestly i don't see where we're over talented in comparison to the remainder of the NFL except at quarterback other than maybe defensive backs. When the pass rush is there, they hold up. They do make rookie mistakes, particularly that pass to gordon, and that's because to be frank, they are rookies, you learn not to bite from game experience. I blame the offensive line and our inability to slow the pass rush through play calling or execution, getting rid of Lang is proving to be a poor decision. I think Cobb is done, i do not think devonte is as good without rodgers as what people think he is and i think MVS is the best talent in that corp. I'd like Philburn to take over play calling responsibilities and start there. I just wish we'd do something, like anything other than nothing if only for the placebo effect. We're squandering Rodgers and we really need to capitalize on his remaining years because we're never, ever going to get a favre to rodger xfer ever again and to do the same thing twice consecutively is complete and utter bullshit.

Bad:
Edge/OLB
Safety
Offside ILB potentially
Interior OL

Above Average:
ILB - Martinez
TE
WR
Center and RT (when healthy)
CB (if ever healthy)
RB (if jones is used properly)
P (i think...he's played poorly lately)

Elite:
QB
Interior DL - Clark Daniels (Wilkerson)
K - Crosby
LT

Arguably, we have an elite WR in Adams, an elite TE in graham, a rising CB group with experience - potential to be a deep strength in the next year or 2.
There is lots of talent on this team...its also young at CB and WR and Safety. There is expired talent at edge which crucifies our younger players because every mistake they make gets burned...there is no "eraser" to get to the QB in 2 seconds like there is on other teams.

The Oline wouldnt look so bad if we ran a quick offense. If rodgers took every open throw as soon as plays started like other teams do...the oline would be top 10. Now a counterpoint to that is that we drafted our new WR's as all outside receivers which isnt conducive to a quick pass offense, however we seem to have increased our deep ball threat...assuming theres protection to get the ball deep.

The team is an enigma...lots of parts that are great but put them all together and the blend isnt what you need to run either a quick offense or a long pass attack. The quick game doesnt work because we have all outside receivers...which exposes oline. The long game doesnt work because we have a weak interior OL which doesnt give enough time to pocket pass a deep ball.
Our corners are playing well until plays break down, then they get beat on experience because the pass rush isnt getting home.

A new coach might be the answer, a good draft might be the answer, a spending spree in free agency might be the answer...a combination of all three is probably the answer. Draft Edge, IOL, S, Slot WR, IOL, ILB/TE, Edge, S. We've had OK luck throwing 3 picks at a weak position and having one stick...see Aaron Jones from the 3 RB draft class or the two WR from last years draft class. Whatever we dont draft we need to sign an above average veteran in FA...a replacement for Cobb/Matthews/HaHa. Safetys are cheap, sign the best FA safety. Draft Edge. Sign an IOL. Draft Slot WR. Sign veteran Edge. Draft TE/ILB. Throw more picks at edge or safety.

A new coach can fix the discipline and stupid penalty issues...a new coach could get rodgers to buy in on letting an offensive gameplan develop before going rogue. Proven FA at positions of need works for every other team...we should do that. Draft the key positions because rookie contracts and overachieving players have been the key to superbowl runs lately (eagles/seahawks/carolina/broncos(rookie von miller))

Alright, Im done rambling at work for awhile.

Been a while since Graham was at an elite level. He's still good, but that's it.

Two things you can still count on deciding most games after all these years of saying it: Opposing receivers find ways to be wide open in space, our receivers fail to create space and force tight throws. Rodgers is not playing great this year missing a lot of plays you'd expect him to make with little effort. Now that he needs help it's a reminder that he isn't getting much. I hate to blame MM for that but other teams can drum up playcalls that solve that issue whereas we've seen it happening for a decade. He needs to adapt or part ways.

Sigh. Allison to IR and Jermaine "Open hand punch" Whitehead cut.

Buddy and I think we can squeak out 4 more wins this season after taking another look at the schedule. The team doesn't do anything well and is very weak in several areas. Another wasted season for our HoF QB.

I'd wager that Mike "Baby Walrus" McCarthy is done after this season. If he stays for his extension, I can't honestly say that this team and FO is actually trying to acquire another Lombardi trophy

Call me a homer but I can still see this team running the table with what's left. They need to play a complete game in dominating fashion this week, but I don't think it's out of the question to finish with 11 wins. They played two of the top teams in the league very well on the road and were a couple mistakes away from walking away from both with wins. The realist in me accepts that it won't happen and even if they slide into the playoffs it's a wasted season but I do believe they have all the potential to get there.

As you mentioned in different words, the pieces are there for success but finishing a complete game and any sense of consistency is still missing. Too many glaring holes are invisible now and young faces still waiting to make a real impact. I've lost faith because of how many games have been a tale of two halves.

Lots of games left to figure out what the fuck is wrong with the chemistry but working that out midseason is daunting. Only thing in favor for us is that we still have a lot of divisional games to play.
