a team did a hook and ladder converting a 3rd and 19, 30+ yard play. :28 seconds left on the 35 yard line, they throw it to their star receiver and he pulled a michael crabtree breaking away from two defenders for a touchdown. won 38-35.

from earlier in the game. apparently this is a first down lol. the team ended up scoring on the next play.

The first down is not to the stick itself, but to the first link. This is one of the most unknown/ignored rules of football.

Think about it, doesn't it seem like it would be hard to read comparing it to just the stick? Plus it would depend on how you lean the stick itself. The first link takes away some of the eye-balling, making it easier to read.
