the drop off from joeckel, fisher, johnson is pretty steep in comparison. Those three guys (+Warmack/Cooper @ guard) will be all-pros. There are tons of pass rushers as well. It's nice that our biggest positions of need are pretty stacked this year.

In the end, I would like us to trade down to gather more picks and acquire more talent (like what the patriots do every single year) rather than selecting any one guy at 5

thats something ive been thinking about, trading down for once instead of taking one of the first few picks. it works for the pats like you said. but we did get stafford and johnson with our high picks

i've been on Milliner all off-season, but Fisher is the way to go IF he's still available at #5 (I think he will be gone.) Replacing Backus has to be our first priority.

oh lord http://www.detroitlions.com/news/lions-insider/article-1/Manti-Teo-says-one-game-shouldnt-define-his-draft-stock/7a97f2fc-3864-420a-a14c-8774e3c45dde

Quote
Former Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o has dealt with scrutiny both on and off the football field dating back to January.

A poor showing in the BCS National Championship loss to Alabama put doubt in some minds about his pro potential. Prior to that game, he was thought to be securely among the top 10 picks of the NFL draft.

A less-than-stellar showing at the NFL Combine in February compounded the doubt.

Te’o improved his 40-yard dash time from 4.82 seconds at the combine to a reported 4.71 at his pro day last month, which has since moved him back into the first-round conversation for the NFL Draft later this month. But he told detroitlions.com during a pre-draft visit to Allen Park on Tuesday that one game and one workout shouldn’t define his football talents.

“It’s a little frustrating that people look at one game and say that was the closest thing to an NFL team that I had faced, not giving credit to all the other teams that I played,” he told detroitlions.com. “So you’re saying Stanford isn’t an NFL team; Michigan State, Michigan, Purdue and USC.

“(Alabama) is definitely a game I didn’t do as well as I could have, but it’s not something I felt could define my career at Notre Dame.”

Te’o had one of the more impressive all-around seasons for a linebacker in NCAA history this past year. His seven interceptions were second most in the country and his 113 tackles and 11 passes defended helped earn him the runner up for the Heisman Trophy.

The seven interceptions are particularly impressive after not recording one his first three years at Notre Dame. Te’o says it’s proof that he’s a three-down linebacker at the next level.

“I can always get better, and I’m going to get better," said Te'o, who has been focused on new techniques the past couple months to help him get off blocks better, "but if anyone questioned my ability to cover, I had seven interceptions. That should say, ‘hey, he has the ability to play three-down football.'"

Te’o played middle linebacker his entire college career and is widely considered to be a middle-to-late first-round pick in the NFL Draft.

The Lions have middle linebacker Stephen Tulloch signed through 2016 but do have an opening at outside linebacker with Justin Durant signing a free agent deal with the Cowboys last month.

“I’m just a kid who likes to play football,” Te’o said. “I think I’m always getting to the ball. My tenacity. My film study, my instincts and the way I diagnose plays (are my best assets).”

I think I want to get Ziggy as well the more i think about it.

We've invested so much in Suh + Fairley, we need that last piece to put it all together

Ziggy my niggy is an absolute freak of nature. He's a complete beast. It's unreal how fast he is for how big he is

Dion Jordan is more of a 3-4 LB, and while he could play 4-3 DE, he may be a bit undersized

It's gotta be Fischer. Gotta protect the franchise. If Stafford goes down it won't matter what weapons we have. Besides de is deep and the addition of Quinn will aid our corner play. Also it is extremely hard to build an oline outside of drafting. If Fischer is available it would be stupid to pass on his talent

If the Eagles take Fisher at 4, or someone trades up to beat us to Fisher, Do you want Lane Johnson or Ziggy?

http://blogs.detroitlions.com/2013/04/11/lions-sign-left-footed-kicker-havard-rugland-kickalicious/

The Lions have a new kicker and he’s “Kickalicious.”

The team signed Norwegian kicking sensation Havard Rugland to a contract Thursday to compete for their kicking job left vacant by Jason Hanson’s retirement. Terms of the deal were not known.

Rugland will compete with newly signed David Akers for the job. Both players are left-footed, which should make it easy on the holders this offseason.

Rugland is trying to parlay his incredible trick-shot video — which he called “Kickalicious” — into a job kicking for an NFL team.

The Lions brought Rugland in for a tryout last month but did not sign him at the time.

Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said at the NFL League Meetings last month that the team first learned about him from the internet video and through league channels.

Rugland is 6-foot-2 1/2 and 240 pounds and became familiar with the sport only a couple years ago. He has been training with former NFL kicker Michael Husted in San Diego since November of 2012 and has followed the career former NFL kicker and native Norwegian Jan Stenerud, one of only three kickers currently in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

He’s also reportedly had workouts for the Browns and Jets before signing with the Lions.

If this video is legit, this guy can fucking boot it, and I look forward to seeing him play for sure.
