Boys, the draft is fast approaching. Who do you want at #5?
Offensive tackle: Eric Fisher. With both Cherilus and Backus gone, the tackle position is empty. It should be assumed that 2012's first round selection Reiff should fill in at either tackle position, and he is also capable of filling the guard position left void by Stephen Peterman. Jason Fox is another candidate to play one of the tackle spots. If Fisher is drafted, he could play left tackle, Fox could play right tackle, and Reiff could fill in at guard, though he was drafted to be tackle
Cornerback: Dee Milliner. With the resigning of Chris Houston, safety Louis delmas, and addition of glover Quin, our secondary is shaping up to be pretty solid. Milliner fits the build that our front office is looking for: big, fast, physical. However, we didn't select three corners last year for nothing. Bill Bentley, jonte green, and Chris greenwood are all on the roster for the coming year. Greenwood is the one that stands out to me. Hampered by injuries last year, greenwood never saw the field. He too fits the frame of a big corner, but is coming from division 3 Albion and questions about experience and ability to transition are there. If we take milliner, yes our secondary would be lethal, but that would mean we already gave up on last years draft class, plus there are tons of corners available in this years draft.
Offensive guard: Chance Warmack. Warmack is an absolute beast. He didn't have an eye opening combine, but is said to be the best guard prospect to come out in decades. He would open things up in the middle for Reggie and be a solid addition to our o-line. Guards are rarely taken as high as #5, so it would be likely that we would trade down and then select Warmack if that were to happen.
Defensive end: Ziggy Ansah / Dion Jordan: with the departure of Cliff Avril, Kyle Vanden Bosch, and Lawrence Jackson still remaining unsigned, defensive end is arguably our biggest position of need. Willie Young and Ronnell Lewis are on the roster, but neither have much experience. We did steal Jason jones from the Seahawks, and it looks like he will take over one defensive end spot. Ansah is fairly new to football, but the coaching staff got a chance to work with him at the senior bowl. He isn't proven, but is able to really get after the quarterback. He is similar to Jason Pierre Paul in terms of rawness. The question is: can he produce now? Or is he a pick for down the road? Dion Jordan is more of a 3-4 lb than a 4-3 de, but he is a freakish athlete that stands at 6'6". This guy has pass rushing skills that we need badly to complement suh + fairley. Having said that, the defensive end class this year is extremely deep, and it is possible that damontre Moore, bjoern Werner, and margus hunt could all be there in the second round where we are picking.
Anyone else you would really like provided the opportunity? This draft class does not have much elite talent, picks 5-35 will all be similar in terms of talent. I would not mind us trading down a few spots in the first in order to pick up more spots in later rounds to fill more holes and add more depth. We still need an outside receiver opposite Megatron. Safety depth would be awful. Pettigrew and scheffler have expiring contracts. Raiola is getting old. Defensive end needs depth badly. Palmer to start at olb? So who do you guys like? Who do you dislike?
