yea don't want to piss off Godgers when he has an extension coming up. I'm willing to let McCarthy prove me wrong

Is this actually a "Prove it" deal though? Nothing is impossible but I would think since they just booted the GM, WR, DL and ILB coaches in addition to the DC that they would want him to be with his new staff for at least 2 years before booting him. If the plan was to clean house, why not do it sooner and give some others a chance to try their methods before the season ended? Can't really get much worse than what we had.

/e

he's signed through 2019. So that answers my question. He gets ~2 years with the new guys and a chance to bring the trophy back home once again.

2 years is fine and if McCarthy drops the ball this year I don't think they'll hesitate too much to ship him

I also agree with 2 years with other staff, considering who the fuck wants to be a defensive coordinator for a team with a coach who has 1 year left and everyone might get canned. Two years at least gives you something to work with.

This. Of the people lined up for the guillotine in Green Bay, McCarthy wasn't at the front of the line by any means and expecting a first year DC, GM and however many coaching positions they change to excel immediately is folly. Some great pieces are in place, but an entirely new defensive scheme will take a bit of time to bear fruit.

Let’s hope it only takes one year to prove he stays

Take away the Super Bowl year and McCarthy is 6 - 8 in the playoffs all time with Rodgers who is arguably the GOAT. Think about the play calling against AZ, NYG, SEA, and SF time and time again. How many times did you watch us go run run incomplete 3 and out in those playoff losses?

If Rodgers really believes in McCarthy I'll gladly shut my mouth though.

"Take away the Super Bowl year"

aka

Take away the single greatest achievement for a coach and his team possible.

I get your point but that's an incredibly awkward sentence. No coach is perfect. You previously listed Pete Carroll in your top 3 coaches. What about a slant on the goal line? No one can call a perfect game. Shit happens and you learn. Now we have an opportunity to improve on the side of the ball that needs it most. Keep in mind a few of those crushing losses were mostly on the defense.

The special teams flunk in the NFC championship against Seattle made me cry. Why did the onside kick have to bounce off of his helmet directly into the hands of a Seahawk? Gosh I hate Seattle so much.

Haha defended Capers and ripped the locker room instead. Kinda hard to take his side after what he pulled on Sunday.

I didn't read the entire interview but just did now. He just keeps rambling... fucking reporters wet dream to write that article. I've always thought he was VERY overrated but I am trying to remain optimistic. We both weren't sure if the sacrificial season would beget changes, but here we are. New GM sticks with McCarthy or tries to get his own guys in right away?
