Don't some places do it for free?
Or you could just buy a USB cable that attaches to the car's diagnostic reader outlet and read it yourself with the right software
Or just buy your own code reader for a mere pittance by your standards.
Last time I used a code reader at O'Reilly's, it gave me an O2 sensor code.
Ordered the part, while waiting for it to come, got my oil changed at the dealership for free, they hooked it up for free (not sure why free but I didn't complain).
Turns out my whole Exhaust system had failed and that if I didn't have some warranty they said I already had that I'd be out $4100.
