Cam Newton did nothing wrong. The way last season went is not his fault. I just don't understand what BB's plan here is. Does he think he's going to scrape out a 10-6 record and a first round playoff exit? Is that the the goal? I find it hard to imagine that there weren't more appealing options out there.

BB is 48 wins behind Shula's record. That's gonna take somewhere between 5 seasons (if the team is good) and 12 seasons (if the team is bad). Perhaps he has a handshake deal with the Krafts that they will let him hang around until he gets it. Then it would make sense to try and get as many wins as he can each year (hopefully at least 8) so he can beeline retirement and the team can rebuild after he's gone.

Not saying cams "good" but he's the best QB they gonna find for 14 mill a year....

best for increasing the chances they get to 10 wins in 2021? Or best for becoming a title contender as soon as possible?

Both definitions of 'best' are worthy of their own discussion. My original comment was an attempt to highlight the distinction.

It's irrelevant, since it's the best option period "at that price point", as he said. That doesn't make him the best available options for wins or contention, not by a mile, but for 14 you're not going to do any better, hence his response.

Dont really understand why those two options are the only two your considering or why they both can't be part of the discussion. Yall should be on your knees thanking cam for what he did for yall last year and what he's doing for yall this year. Your starting QB took pennies last year to play cuz yall fucked your own cap to win SBs (nothing wrong with that). And not that I follow the pats money situation but I'm sure your cap still in a bad spot this year since it dropped to 182mill. So again, yall should be fucking ecstatic that's all you gotta pay your starting QB in the current climate of the NFL.

They can, so my first comment was an attempt to discuss them

I'm not going to disagree with that characterization of Cam's compensation. But that leads us right back to where my comment started:

He's not going to keep bringing Cam back on 1 year deals for the next 5 years. Is he going to find another Cam-like option (veteran willing to take a pay cut to keep being a starter)? Or, at some point, is the team just going to bite the bullet and roll into a season starting a 2nd round pick who is still on his rookie contract?

I think if people could figure out the method behind BB's madness yall wouldn't have 6 SBs wins in the last 20 years
