I think they do a good job analyzing public perception. However, some of his information about our roster is noticeably off...

I think he is mostly overlooked because he doesn't put up gaudy stats, which then leaves him ignored in the minds of people who only play fantasy to learn about other teams. If he played in an imbalanced pass-heavy offense like the one Matt Ryan, Brees, or Romo (up until last year) played in, he would have better #'s, be fantasy relevant, and receive more acclaim.

He isn't elite though for all of the reasons Eli isn't elite. Joe will win some games and get hot, but he'll also have an occasional game where he can't do shit for some reason. With elite QBs like younger Peyton and Rodgers, you expected even their off-games to be at least average. Elite QBs raise the talent of those around them. If we win games this year despite a mediocre receiving corps, then It'll help Joe's reputation in my eyes.

I will say that Roethlisberger didn't become one of the elites until he entered his 30s. Kind of like pitchers in baseball, QBs don't really hit the peak of their prime until late 20s/early-mid 30s. It's not too late for Joe to enter the elite conversation, although giving him scrubs like Aiken and Marlon as his #2 WR is going to hurt his chances. Wouldn't be surprised if we draft another first round WR next year.

I hope we do draft another WR #1

Sss will be leaving us, so we will be hurting badly for a #1. Assuming no one we have now decides to put on their big boy pants and emerge as a big name, which is unlikely.

Maxx will be good for Joe but pittagod and his glass hip isn't gonna do Joe any favors. Maxx and Joe are gonna need some good chemistry

I think it's also worth noting that Flacco has NEVER had elite receivers. The best receivers he's had have been a 35+ Y/O Steve Smith, Anquan Boldin (decidedly not a #1), and an aging Todd Heap early in his career.

Every top tier QB in the game has had at least one blue chip receiver, and the likes of Matt Ryan, who he will forever be compared to, has had multiple #1's.

Idk I think boldin was a good # 1 for us. He really turned it on in the playoffs and played lights out. My heart broke a little when we traded him away. As soon as pitta and Flacco started connecting pitta broke his hip

Boldin never topped 1k yards with us. He was a good possession receiver, but a true #1 WR demands double teams and makes a big impact every week.

He turned up big in 2012 and made some clutch catches, but throughout his Ravens career before that, he would disappear for games at a time. He also had one very bad drive-ending drop that ended one of our postseason runs (the year we had Houshmandzedah, whenever that was). I think some fans remember the way he left and forget the frustration of having him as our best receiver.

Boldin doesn't have the skillset to be a #1. He's big (but not tall), strong, and probably one of the toughest receivers ever, but he's not a #1.

2010. It was a bad drop.

He was clutch as fuck, especially during the SB run, but like you said he was never a thousand yard receiver and never a true lead dog.

Going back and looking at all of our best wide receivers is just so disappointing. And then you look at how Dez was sniped 1 pick before us.

I mean, you can't argue with 2 'ships, but I would really love to have a top-10 receiver for once.

We draft too late every year, Ozzie doesn't put a high priority on wideouts, and when he does take one it's often a bad pick. <_<

Ozzie can draft everything but receiver. I'm glad he hasn't mortgaged our future for an elite wideout like Atlanta did, though. Even though Julio worked out, I think elite wideouts are often overdrafted.

Oh I would never mortgage the future for a non-QB. You end up with 1 player who is supposed to compensate for 4 to 5 guys you could have had instead who would fill out your roster.

Atl ended up with a terrible defense and O-line. They had to basically win-now after getting Julio, and they didn't. Came close though.

Champions are built on depth and good drafting, at least in the rookie wage scale era.
