McFadden surprised a lot of people last year and he wasn't even the starter early on. Alfred Morris should be the day one starter with Darren complimenting him. Between the two, Dallas would have been fine at RB.
I assumed he would do fairly well(mcfadden) behind that line from the time they picked him up and he indeed did, but between him and dunbar, the looming threat of injuries was too great to just risk testing one more season, now they have a potential stud RB in zeke, who I assume will seize the top spot at some point and probably earlier than we think. I love Mcfadden, but he wasn't the ideal fit for the offense, and this pick allows dallas to always have somebody at the RB spot who is a credible running threat, without having to ride one horse and hope for full health all season.
I don't disagree with you that the cowboys would have been 'fine' with just Mcfadden and Morris, but the team strategy requires a
top-level running game to grind the clock and improve the passing game's effectiveness. This rings especially true since the brunt of the team's passing come from long-winded type routes, Dez fades or posts, deep Witten hooks and ins, and Beasleys double move flat routes.
