They had $8,825,035 in cap space before the move, if this frees up $5.5M then they have $14,325,035... the cap hit for Trent Williams is $14,729,005. I'd assume the Patriots would give up a player to get him so theoretically it's possible.
Kind of hard to see the Patriots devoting that much money to a LT when you have two young potential options in Isaiah Wynn and Yodny Cajuste though.
So if Brady's money went up from $15m this year (before this new deal), to now $23m this year (after this new deal), how does that free up cap space?

For the #Patriots and QB Tom Brady, it’s a two-year extension that raises his salary from $15M this year to $23M, source said. No full terms yet, but at the least, a raise this year.
Then obviously we know the rest of the deal.. Which only adds more money onto the cap.

The #Patriots and QB Tom Brady are in agreement on a 2-year deal worth $70M, source said, thru 2021. He gets $23M this year, then $30M and $32M in the following years — though both sides are amenable to adjusting it if the situations warrants. It’s essentially year-to-year.
