Nothing about signing Schaub prevents you from drafting a QB. In fact, it creates a nicer environment for a rookie QB because it allows him to learn the position for a year.

There you go using that logic again, what have we told you about that? It's too much for some of our jsp brotheren to understand.

Or we could draft one next year ; ;
I don't know how the next crop of rookies looks but I haven't been impressed by any of the big 3 QBs. I'd really like to wait for a season where we think we've found "the guy" before committing to another rookie project. Until then, patch the hole with vets and let our younger players get experience.

That's why I've been so opposed to the signings of players like Justin Tuck, who won't actually be relevant when we're ready to make a push.

I'm hearing rumors on the local radio show that the late-round pick that was talked about before may turn out to be a 5th-round pick that the Texans will receive from the Raiders for Matt Schaub. Not a 6th or 7th round pick like originally thought. I sure hope it's true. That would be an amazing trade for general manager Rick Smith. I thought they had no choice but to release Matt Schaub after June 1.

The whole plan is that they'll be gone when you're ready to make a push. You'll have tons of young talent and lots of cap space in a couple years.

McFadden -1yr
Tuck -2yr
Woodley- 2yr
Tarrell Brown -1yr
Antonio Smith -2yr
Penn- 2yr
Boothe- 2yr
James Jones -3yr
Schaub -3yrs remaining

Austin Howard for 5 yrs is your only long-term commitment.

It's being confirmed that it was a sixth-round pick that Oakland is sending Houston. Oh well, not as good as a fifth but better than a seventh-round pick.

I feel like that's a steal for the Raiders. I don't think Schaub is that bad...

As opposed to signing a bunch of younger players that were available for longer term contracts? There were several available mid-20's that we certainly could've thrown a lot of money at to lock up for 4-5 years.

You do make an excellent point, at least the contracts expire. I was sort of hoping that we'd be able to make some longer-term agreements with the money, though, instead of essentially stalling by signing old players that won't improve our team significantly enough to make it competitive. To me, it looks like we're throwing money away.

Then again, I guess this is California, welfare capital of the universe. #OaklandEBT
