The #Colts are locking in their QB, finalizing a deal with Daniel Jones to secure the most important position, per me and @TomPelissero.

It’s a 2-year, $100M contract done by his agents at @AthletesFirst. The biggest two-year deal in NFL history.

You would think Daniel Jones is Peyton Manning the way the Colts are paying him. He's had like two good years in the NFL. Nothing to write home about. Certainly not anything sensational. I'm not even sure he's that good. Matt Schaub back when he played for the Texans (before Albert Haynesworth crushed his foot) was a better quarterback than Daniel Jones.

Add to the fact Daniel Jones is coming off a serious injury. It's very likely he won't have a good 2026 season but he'll get paid $50 million anyway. If Houston Texans backup quarterback Davis Mills had a legit opportunity to start a full season for any team in the league right now. I think he'd be as good if not better than Daniel Jones. Statistically speaking. So Davis Mills could be getting paid two years and $100 million? That just makes my head spin right now.

I apologize if I'm underselling Daniel Jones somehow. Colts are going nowhere but third place in the AFC South. Maybe last if the Tennessee Titans improve.

Daniel Jones isn't the best.
But he manages the game fine which is what Indy needs.
They don't need an all star QB.

Also, nowadays alot of the time..people coming off surgery are better than before.
Obviously not all the time, but the surgeons today versus 20 years ago have much better success at making things even better than they were before they were injured.

Our defense was the issue last year.
We had a couple of games we could have/should have won down the stretch but things don't always go your way in the NFL (i.e Rams, Seahawks -- two great teams)

Somebody brought up a great point on ESPN. Who were the Colts competing with to sign Daniel Jones?
It's not like he had a huge market coming off a serious injury. No team is going to pay for an injured QB.

A torn Achilles isn't something you can just recover from successfully that fast. It's going to be a long process.
So I understand it being a two-year deal. You're banking on the second year being good. But $100M is just wild!!

But you make a good point about the medical advancements and how it's at least more realistic to come back stronger from that injury.

And before somebody brings up C.J. Stroud's contract extension. I'd hold off on paying him. Prove you're great in 2026 and then maybe.

Only player I'd re-sign to superstar money right now is Will Anderson Jr. He may become the highest paid defensive player.
Fresh off 3 sacks and 2 forced fumbles against Drake Maye in the playoffs. Not his fault the offense didn't show up to win.

I just feel like these players today get paid crazy money for no reason. What ever happened to earning your contract with great play?

Players get paid crazy money because the league and teams are making crazy money.
And with a cap, unlike the MLB. The teams make even more money because they have a spending limit.
I don't generally look at prices of tickets because I would rather watch from the comfort of my home but I would venture to say that a ticket to your average football game is roughly $250.
According to google, they averaged 65,000 fans per game. That's roughly $130 million a year just from ticket sales. This doesn't include how much you have to pay to park, eat concession, merchandise, tv revenue share from the league.

Do you like the NFL salary cap the way it is? Or would the NFL be better without a salary cap altogether? David Carr and Derek Carr made a great point on their podcast this morning. They said the NFL has never penalized a team for manipulating the salary cap. They can easily restructure contracts and push back dead money to future years by giving out a larger signing bonus. And by then the NFL has increased the league wide salary cap. Just recently surpassed $300 million for the first time.

I like the idea of a cap. It would not be a fair league at all without a cap. It would turn into the NBA/MLB with teams creating "super teams"
Not that they can't do that now with people willing to accept lower pay, but there are not many people willing to take less than what other players of their skill level demand.
The only guy to really ever take team friendly contracts was Tom Brady.

Out of the 32 NFL teams. If you eliminated the salary cap. Half the teams would likely become irrelevant and boring to watch.
But the other 16 teams would be more interesting to watch. Was the NFL really so bad before the salary cap started in 1994?

You would have more super teams like you mentioned. But Football is such a team sport that even a super team isn't guaranteed to win.

The 2000 Washington Redskins had one of the greatest rosters I've ever seen assembled. And they went 8-8 that year. Greatly underachieved.
Even though they started off that year 6-2 including a 10-3 win over the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens had won the Super Bowl that season.

You had the so called "Dream Team" Eagles back in 2011. Loaded with talent. Also went 8-8 and missed the playoffs. Some dream team. LOL

On the other hand even with a salary cap and a fair chance to compete. Teams like the Browns and Dolphins rarely do anything!!
The last time the Miami Dolphins won a playoff game for example. December 30, 2000. A wild-card win over the Colts in Overtime.
