-In a nutshell, the NCAA required the collegiate players at Flyers' Development Camp to pay their own way (including transportation costs, hotel and food) for all but the first 48 hours at camp. The "48-hour rule" partial exemption that allows the Flyers to cover hotel and food for two days applies only to first-time attendees. The 48-hour clock starts ticking upon arrival at camp. All attendees must pay for their own round-trip transportation. Returning attendees must pay their own way for the entire duration of their stay, which technically includes even food.

what a stupid rule your making college kids pay for thier own shit to stay at a development camp after the first 2 days?
i mean im sure nhl teams pay for shit but like thats just dumb as f i didnt know that was a thing

-Under NCAA rules, a player who transfers out of one collegiate hockey program into another must sit out one season before he can join his new college's team. The player will not lose a year of NCAA eligibility during the missed season. He is permitted to play in other leagues during that time, as long as the league is classified by the NCAA as an amateur league.

that seems like a really bad thing for development now i see why ncaa wasnt really a desired development path for a lot of players and chl has been so dominate at producing prospects

-What happens once an NCAA prospect signs an entry-level contract? Regardless of the previous duration of his collegiate career, the player must forego all remaining NCAA eligibility. This was the case with Flyers 2018 first-round pick Joel Farabee, who signed with the Flyers after his freshman season at Boston University

-Even if the player fully pays his own way to Development Camp, the NCAA has additional rules that govern attendance. The most important rule is that players may not miss any classes at school in order to attend either a Development Camp in July or an NHL Rookie Camp in September. Thus, if a player is registered for summer classes at school, he cannot attend an NHL Development Camp.

-The NCAA's eligibility rules even affect things such as players' ability to keep pro team swag such as Flyers hats or t-shirts or their jerseys from the scrimmage at the end of camp. These are considered "material benefits" by the NCAA, so Development Camp attendees either must pay the team for the cost of the items, return them at the end of camp or donate the items to charity.

thats a lot of rules and regulations that seem to hinder the player for the schools benefit im not a fan of that if the guys got a legit shot to make the nhl why would you hinder his career with so much shit thats fucked
i never realized that there was so much bullshit behind the scenes for ncaa players

It's hilarious that the NCAA is allowed to profit off student athletes, but student athletes cant even keep a hat from the organization without being penalized.

This system has to get changed eventually, right?

getting demoted to a lesser league for a whole season just to switch teams doesnt potentially hinder a persons career? they age a year and play lesser quality hockey for a season and probably dont learn shit vs easy competition
thats a whole season lost in learning how to play better hockey vs better players with better staff ect ect
PLUS ncaa can deny the appeal to rejoin the ncaa and joining their new team and keep them in the lesser league for another season so they might lose 2 seasons just because the ncaa is a bunch of fuck tards

academically im sure a lot of schools are close but when it comes to quality of hockey staff and team im sure there is some big variances why penalize a player for picking the better of his options when they realize they might have what it takes
