TLDR:
- SKA (KHL Team, owned by Putin) has been allowed to stack their roster and are not limited by the Salary Cap
- Putin is up for re-election this year so that's a huge motivation for his team to win the championship
- Team consists of a lot of Russian Olympians, KHL has said that they allowed it so Team Russia could build chemistry together for the Olympics
- First round of playoffs, they are playing a team likely to fold after this season. The team, Severstal, has had a crazy good season despite their roster
- Game 1 was close... there were 24 PIMs for Severstal and 0 for SKA
- Then in Game 3, this happened: https://twitter.com/severstalclub/status/971489307260223492 . Blatantly offside goal scored by SKA, Serverstal coach challenged and they called it a good goal.


I guess the two big points from this story are that the KHL is corrupt as fuck and nobody is cares or is going to do anything about it. The other is that Severstal has called out the KHL on Twitter which is pretty risky considering they are basically bad mouthing Putin.
