well that's the problem with the 2-party system. if one races to the bottom, then the other can technically race to the bottom too and face only mild consequences. problem is that it's R or D not only in every government level but also for most side elections like for state treasurer and supreme court. and money rules in the US, so...
good thing in Canada there are viable choices that threaten the liberals/conservatives all the time, and if one party strays too far they get pummeled or split like the Liberals in 2011 and the Tories during the 90's. even though FPTP sucks ass our system is not terrible.

what rattles me is that Trump could realistically die in his second term, so the Dems pick someone else who could also die in office... and his best competition for the dem nomination will probably die or be invalid between 2020 and 2024
america is fucked lol.
although frankly I don't think the people deserve any better. maybe I'm being anti-American here but I say this as a dual citizen. when you're a global military-corporate empire but you only give a shit about whether you're hurting fellow countrymen, you don't deserve better.
It is an outcome far too likely..... That seems to be the trend in politics though. You frequently have men in their 70's in positions of power. Death or mental incapacity is a noted possibility.
Even in our legal system the most common reason for disbarment is mental incapaciation. It makes you wonder how many cases decided by a judge, or individual counsel designated to represent individuals were not mentally sound handling matters of such importance.
As for your late statement, I will leave it alone because I can not respond to it in a few sentences. That is a very complex issue and if I were to express my opinions on that statement it would be very drawn out.
As for the two way race. It is merely an illusion of choice. I don't see enough change happening with either party. For the most part it will remain status quo.
By the time a politician ascends the hierarchy he/she is bought and paid for at least to some degree. Joe Biden was one of the poorest senate members when he began his career.... Now it has been stated he made over $15 million the past couple of years.
Maybe I am cynical but with the way the system is set out you need to raise millions to run a campaign. The bulk of that money comes from sources with a vested interest in manipulating the guy they threw money at.
