Not one to stat watch too much and I don't dislike him, but Kassian's underlying stats are really shitty for someone who skates with McDavid. Like, well below average in shots on net or shot attempts, currently riding a very high shooting percentage despite only having 14 goals so far. He's 2nd worst among RWs in penalties differential. Only looks good when you consider his stats with McDavid and Draisatl on the ice. His agent was deft in signing him to the deal when he did, because odds are you could plug in just about anyone else and get better results.
He's not even Kunitz, Wilson or Burrows level when it comes to having his game elevated by superstars in his line, let alone guys like Rust and Guentzel.
All of what you said is true. His stats are terrible. It appears he is bringing something that can't be measured though. If Mcdavid/Draisatl did not want him around he would not be on that line.
When he scores they are always stoked for him.
What I find strange is nobody else on the Oilers seems to be able to do any better playing with such elite players. Look how many have tried and failed. It is mind boggling really.
You would think even an average player could easily put up 50+ points playing with those two but that has not been the case for years.
/e the sample size is small but maybe Yamamoto will be the guy who can actually put up big numbers with those two if given the opportunity. He has been hot since called up. Then again you don't want to ruin secondary scoring as the Oilers have struggled with that.
