I'd like to add that Weber alone is being paid more salary this year than Nashville's ENTIRE forward corps. Nashville has one of the biggest payrolls in the league this year clocking in around 72 mil and they still have near the most cap space in the league. That is what the lockout was trying to eliminate. It only favours big market teams.

I would love to see you as a GM. You would sign 5 second liners to $6M per and then try to figure out why you can't sign anyone else because their salaries are low.

I especially like all this from someone calling me "the dumbest fuck ever" for saying that Subban wouldn't get more than 3.5M per year.

I said you were the dumbest fuck for saying Subban was on the same level as Del Zotto.

Also Semin is 20th in scoring in the NHL. That's a first liner and he has a history of scoring at a high level. Only in your xenophobic mind is Semin a second liner.

he has 8 goals in 30 games. he has been slowly declining for a few years now. he is streaky, and hasn't played an 80 game season.

and I never compared Subban to Del Zotto. I said he gets benched on a monthly basis, which was true.

Here are your comparables for Semin:

Elite names on that list as well as Heatley which this will be x2

Edit: Let's not forget his incredible playoff run last year

All of those deals were signed with a lower cap, and the cap is only going down one time. It will be continuously increasing after next season. Half of those deals have massive cap circumventing extra years like I said earlier. Semin's contract is the standard going into the future, it's not fair to compare it to deals that aren't even allowed anymore. Semin is clearly better than Richards, Heatley, Marleau and Briere.

The only real comparable contracts there are Thornton, Koivu and Stamkos. Thornton was slightly older and took a discount to stay in San Jose, Koivu was overpaid for what he was bringing at the time slightly, and Stamkos' deal eats up just one UFA year. Zajac and Grabovski are overpaid 6 mil second liners you referred to. Semin is paid fairly based on market value. He didn't take a discount but he's certainly not overpaid by more than 500k. Semin's only decline has been Washington switching to a defensive style. As we can clearly see this year his offensive instincts remain unchanged. Goal scoring comes in streaks, he's been good defensively and is putting up tons of points regardless of whether he's in contention for the Rocket Richard or not.

Also Subban was benched once all last season by a retarded coach. We got absolutely stomped with Subban out of the lineup, while Subban(Eller too) scored immediately the game after, so you being the dumb fuck is not a point I would take back in retrospect.

You don't get it, do you? It doesn't matter what salaries were like before. He is signed for 5 more years with a $7M a year cap hit. This is going into a year where the cap is going down roughly $6M. You say this is the standard? Does this mean that the likes of Giroux, Malkin, Vanek, Lundqvist, etc are going to sign for $10M+ a year? This is an UGLY precedent. And you can't sign these players banking on the cap to continuously go up or else you end up like how the Flyers, Canucks, and Blackhawks are going into next season.

To put this in simple terms, after next year the Canes will have roughly 70% of their cap tied up in 9 players.
