Guys are refusing to play for the teams that drafted them, holding out on contracts and making threats to play/and or going overseas.
These strong arm tactics that keep happening have pretty much guaranteed another lockout when the current cba expires. I think he is a moron for holding out. He is young and can prove himself and make more money down the road. By doing this he reduces his chances of a solid, long term deal.
That being said Detroit ownership has to take some blame for this.
When you have guys like Dekyser earning 5 mil a season in a long contract... Abdelkader 4.25 long term as well.... Helm making almost 4 mil as a grinder... I could go on.
The precedent gets set and the agent will look at those contracts and figure, hey, my guy is worth somewhere along those lines. I personally don't think he is worth that kind of money. But past contract on the Wings roster cripple their bargaining power and that is the fault of management.
Now the Wings, as you said, have put themselves in a position where they can not pay him the money he wants, even if they agreed to it. Yes this player is greedy and is asking for too much, however Wings management shot themselves in the foot because they handled their cap and previous contracts poorly.
