Exactly what I was thinking. 8mill for draisaitl is fair. If he plays every year like he did last year.

That's a ton of cash for 2 guys, and this guy has just the two full years in the NHL. Gotta lock him up, but for more than Tarasenko, etc, seems steep. I know you don't really get in cap trouble paying your top guys well, but 8m wouldn't technically be a deal at all imo.

Not next year no, or even for the first 3 maybe. But once the average salaries around the league for guys like tarasenko / gaudreau / kutznetsev etc push 8/9 mil to adjust to the Mcdavid standard it'll look pretty good I think.

My expectations where 5 year he goes to ufa asap around 7aav , 8 year max deal around 9. Pretty certain he'd get 10 eze in his ufa year after a 5yr deal.

Well here's the deal.

Crosby and Malkin were both 8.7M caps in 2010 with a 54m cap hit which = 31% of cap

Mcdavid and draisaitl when their contracts are both in effect would be 12.3M and 8m in 2018 season, which if the escrow escalator is used cap will be 73M? They'll both equal to 28% of cap.

Soo ya it seems steep but Pitts made it work.

Inb4 all of you say "omg you comparing drai and Malkin" ffs ppl no I am not. I'm talking about salaries.

But you are comparing Draisaitl and Malkin.

Cap is currently 75mil? I'd assume no increase for next year.

Comparing salaries =/= comparing players

What's the point of comparing salaries if you're not comparing the players ? You can't say the Oilers will be fine because the Pens just won with Crosby and Malkin making big salaries when Malkin significantly better than Draisaitl. That would be like saying I'm fine with the Sens signing Chris Neil and Chris Kelly to 10M contract because the Pens just won. I'm not comparing the players, only salaries so the Sens should be fine.

Jordan Staal was a big part of that team as well, and he was traded shortly after he got his big contract
