Theodore seems like a decent trade-off for not taking Manson or vatanen stand alone. The salary dump is a huge benefit that makes me think a draft pick must be involved.

Vegas has no motivation to accommodate anahiem. pre trade freeze options, trade 2 or 3 unprotectable players away for decent draft picks. That had to sound like a pretty sweet scenario for vegas to force a division rival into. Or lose a substantial piece of the immediate core.
Instead their core stays intact, and they get too add a 3mil$ piece of next years puzzle.

Ducks could have asked Bieksa to waive, protected Manson and traded Vatanen for less to another team, thus leaving Vegas with scraps to choose from. I think that's why Theodore is all it takes.

ofc anahiem asked him to waive, he didn't want to obviously or anahiem would have went with the best scenario.
Instead they had to either liquidate Manson and vatanen or vatanen and silverberg and cogliono for draft picks or blue chip prospects.

So losing Theodore and adding cap space seems like a big win for anahiem in the now is our time point of view.
