Meh I didn't hate Phaneuf personally

I don't either and I think he was a steadying voice in the locker room. The team needs someone with experience to keep them centered. I didn't like his contract though and he didn't produce as well as I had hoped. Fingers crossed that this isn't another deal that'll bite us in the ass.

Phaneuf came here in a trade that was bad contracts vs. Bad contracts, and he leaves here the same way.

I don't think anyone hated Phaneuf, everyone just hated his contract

Gaborik is very injury prone so I don't expect too much from him, if he's healthy he can probably provide some offense though

We are way late making this trade though, Methot is already gone:(

Yeah pretty much. I think Phaneuf and Gaborik are similar in that they're past their prime and on bad contracts. I think the deal breaker here may be Shore. I don't know what to expect but if he can become a good 3rd line player who can fill in the top 6 if there's injury then it will be a good trade imo.

Also sucks to lose Thompson as I liked his game but there are dozens of players like him in the league so it's not a big lost.

The trade looks equal on it's face. Hard to say who got the better players and none of them are real impact players anyway. Gaborik's contract was more front loaded than Phaneufs, though. So even with the retained salary it looks like Melnyk will save some money so he'll complain a little less now - that's good

Poor gaborik. I was a big gaborik fan once upon a time.
Wished he could have maintained.

Seems like a lot of players from that era are having a hard time converting in today's NHL. Rick Nash comes to mind among others.

I know his issue is injury but still

Both teams got a little bit of what they wanted, not really a winner on either side. LA will gain a defenseman who can play decent minutes and locker room presence, and Thompson is ok.

We saved a bit of money and unload Dion's contract which is good, got a little bit younger by bringing in Shore. We opened a spot on D and C for our prospects to have a chance to play into

Although he was slow, Dion was one of our few guys who wasn't soft as a teddy bear and he will be missed

If we could somehow move Bobby Ryan it will confirm Dorion's god status

Gaborik gonna peak right about now, I can feel it

Real talk tho gabs was always one of my favourite players when he was playing with Mikko Koivu. Will be cool to see him in a sens jers
