Say what you want about late first rounders, but with Philly's recent picks they've taken the likes of Giroux, Richards, Carter, Gagne, and Williams.

Philly probably offered him a NTC. If the Preds match they can't trade him for a year, but I don't think he would have a NTC after that

Exactly. People get so caught up in the top 5 "future stars" but the truth is there is amazing potential throughout the round, giving that up for 4 years could hurt dramatically.

And Philly has some contracts to hand out in the near future, they will lose some young guys

Depends on your scouting staff. Are you going to get 4 Pacioretty/Giroux/Getzlaf etcs, or are you going to be a team like Calgary and get Chucko/Pelech/Irving/Nemisz. When washington didn't match the scott stevens offer sheet the only nhler they got back from four 1sts was Sergei Gonchar.
