Trevor Linden confirms Jim Benning wanted to take a different player over Pettersson at the 2017 draft: “Jim wasn’t sold”.

Finally confirmed by linden himself. Not a rumor anymore. No wonder he ragequit the aqualini and Benning.

He explains he had to convince management to let the scouts make the final pick after how badly the 2016 meetings and draft went.

I recommend listening to the whole interview (starts at 23:00) or at least the draft part at (35:30).

A few months ago, Dhaliwal said Benning wanted Cody Glass.

Former Canucks scout Jonathan Bates tweeted “Finally.” at the news being reported from reddit lol

Not the least bit surprised. Glad that it's confirmed now. What a moron.

I honestly don't know who was the bigger moron out of the whole ordeal... Jim Benning or the massive contingent of Canucks fans as a collective that defended him for so long.

FWIW Benning talked to a few media guys after that interview and denied it, said Petey was always the guy and it was a group decision.

Hard to believe him with the way things ended with him and both Linden and Judd.

Also allegedly Benning saw Juolevi play well at the WJC that year and made his mind up right then and didn't let anyone change it, which is what Linden was referring to when it came to him not liking the draft process. He thought in their meetings the scouts weren't able to speak their minds loudly enough.

As for the team this year, outside of a few clunkers they've been fun to watch.

Nice change of pace compared to the last decade or so.

Structure and effort needs to be non-negotiable and this team is starting to implement that. I've absolutely loved everything Tocchet has said since he took over, literally agree with everything he says whenever he speaks lol.

I hope Petterson's injury(s?) is something that can heal while he plays and won't be a nuisance all season. Despite him producing it's obvious he's not 100% and he can go long stretches looking kinda bad. Mikheyev has definitely helped that line but he's not at full speed, either.

It's a very good team but not elite or anything, bottom half of the roster still needs to be improved.

This totally is the kinda squad who could fluke a SCF run. Lack of depth is right but when healthy we have a ton of gamechangers who can take turns carrying games.

of course, one injury to the Top 6 and we have to ice Juulsen when we already have to keep Myers' chaos under control so...

Lack of depth, but Alvin did very well acquiring depth guys to fill the roster and more. What's worrisome is if Miller or Petey goes down, then yeah Canucks are fucked. However, if any of the bottom 6 guys get hurt, there's ton of depth to fill em with. Aman should've made the team, but hes in the AHL cuz Suter, Blueger>
Studnika just got waived, so the Canucks can call up wolainin or hirose to fill in for soucy.

Insane that Petey is leading the league, when he's playing hurt and not at 100% lol. Even went to Tocchet's office, to apologize for his poor performance
I dont know if it's a good idea to allow Petey to play hurt, but the Canucks really have no choice, unless Suter becomes a 2C while he's out lol..

Some scary rumors

Calgary looking for young player that can play in line up, (Hoglander)

Lolnucks are still interested in Phil Kessel....?

Petey camp looking for 12m/yr

I Wouldnt pay hogs for tanev or zadorov.

Idk why they'd be into Kessel, but the thought of him going to Costco to get some hotdogs across from the arena is hilarious.

I wouldn't mind paying Petey 12yr if it's 8yrs, but damn sucks he couldn't get a barzal contract when they were compared

Zadorov rumours will gain steam now that Soucy is injured long term. Personally I don't think Zadorov should be pursued.

He is a 3rd pairing d-man (maybe a fringe 2nd pair if I am being very generous) who brings a physical edge but not much else. He will want a big raise and probably won't be affordable. Rental only.

No sense to pay for a rental when Calgary is desperate to unload him anyways. Three teams have willingly moved on from him via trade and now the 4th team is being forced to trade him.

What does that say? If he was truly valuable all these other teams would not be so willing to part with him.

Petey at 12 is fine by me. Wish he was signed way earlier for less but I think Petey and his agents believe he can get more after a strong showing this season plus the cap is going up.

I just want to see him signed so all the dumb rumours go away.

I don't see Kessel coming to Vancouver lol. Makes no sense.

Fortunate penalty differential tonight.

Nobody can stop the top Canucks players right now, Hughes and Miller are on one in particular. Miller's line is fun to watch, their size and strength is tough to handle along the boards.

Pettersson keeps racking up points but still has another gear. I don't know if I've ever seen a player that makes it so obvious when he isn't 100% physically and/or mentally right.

Man I still don't know about Petey. Has that Malkin/Kucherov thing to him where he's very on-off his game but when he's on he's the best player in the world. But we're playing our best hockey and he's clearing not driving it, it's Hughes/Miller with a lot of our depth stepping up. I'd like to see him carry the team through a good stretch before committing absurd amounts of money.
