Holy alvin is cold...

Studnika works his ass off in the summer, comes prepared and knows his role. Looked like his old self when he was a highly touted prospect, and gets waived in the end to make room for Sam lafferty lol.

Wolainin also waived. Hirose called up.

The default for people fighting for a roster spot is to hustle hard, so I don't feel bad at all for him. It happens.

Wolanin might get claimed tho, he's a solid depth defenseman and idk if I'd risk losing him for Hirose who I think really needs to play a year in the AHL.

oh yeah for sure, it's bsns in the end. It just sends the wrong message, Tochett hyped the players up to be ready in the off season, and Studnika came out like his old self with all that hardwork. Media, fans, and coaches were impressed, and it looked like he earned himself a spot on the roster. Then last day of waivers, he gets waived cuz the Canucks finally got the player they wanted but missed out on last time.
Then there's Joshua who came into camp unprepared, fitness not up to the standard etc. He still gets a chance and longer leash based on his play last season, and only the few "physical" guy on the team.

Wolainin is a terrific depth piece, but he's 28 yrs old already. AHL dman of the year, and it would suck to see him get picked up by another team, but there's plenty players they can pick up eventually. I think the reason they brought up Hirose is because he is waiver exempt, and Soucy is somewhat hurt. So later on, they won't have any problems sending Hirose down, while Wolainin will most likely get picked up vs right now when ton of players get waived since it's the last day.

Soucy is week to week with a knee injury now. Off to a good start with our defense again lol.

i dont think he was all that good, other than on the PK. He was amazing there, but not too much on 5v5. It feels really nice to see Cole soak up some minutes and play reliable on his end. Hronek also looks great. Like holy, finally hughes doesn't have to solo carry on the back end anymore, there's legit 2 others that are top 4 capable. Instead of forcing 3rd pairing guys to eat those top 4 minutes because there's nobody else.
Quite excited for this season, a lot of depth for once. Although the Canucks are literally fucked if Hughes or Petey gets hurt for a long time lol.

Defense looks pretty sketch already. Demko will have to be on one.

Garland changed his agent and requested a trade. Team gave him permission to talk to other teams.

I wonder if garly for peeke is a possibility lol

Still got a long way to go, but it's refreshing to see Hronek and Cole eat up around ~25min along with Hughes. Rather than forcing ahlers or 3rd pairing guys into top 4 role and letting them play 20min and Hughes 30.

Then alvin actually getting some solid bottom 6 players that are nhl players at affordable contracts, even with blueger and soucy out, it didn't affect the Canucks much with lafferty and Suter still being there. No more dries as 3rd line center is a big change
