Are you joking?  If our entire Roster was healthy we'd fall in probably between 4th-8th seed in the west.

Missing our goalie(s) (howard + Gust), our Captain (zetty), Datsyuk has been off/on with injuries this year..  The mule missed 20+ games with a concussion, multiple of Defensemen etc..  Not many teams would be in the playoff hut when almost your entire lineup are kids from your farm team.

thats just not feasible though. if every teams entire rosters were healthy, then the red wings would maybe fight for 7th or 8th in the west, and maybe fall to 10th or so.

injuries happen all the time in hockey, and when your roster relies on a couple of players that are getting up there in age and have logged MANY MANY minutes over the last 4 or 5 years, these things happen.

when the blues core players hit 30+, and backes gets hurt for 30 games at a time when hes 34 yrs old, and pietrangelo gets injured when hes 32 after playing in 6 straight healthy seasons, i wont be surprised.

It's not "a couple of players." It's pretty much the entire top 2 lines and all of our nhl-ready centers, lol. The team that is being iced on a nightly basis has like a $35 million cap hit. No team is going to be competitive with that and frankly the grand rapids guys have done pretty well considering it's basically an AHL team vs NHL teams at this point.
Blues wouldn't be much of a team if oshie/backes/steen/piet/berglund/tarasenko were all injured. Or if elliott/miller kept getting injured on and off. It has NOTHING to do with the age of the players, wings have been pretty equal opportunity with injuries to both old and young guys.

When your production guys are injured you're gonna have a bad time. Period.

yes, and the wings over the last 10 years have been pretty fortunate to not get injuries from their key players like this. this is a heavy hitting, fast contact sport. occasionally injuries come in bunches.

the red wings simply do not have enough depth to sustain injuries from their few key players, and it shows.

its nothing to be ashamed of, the red wings have had a hell of a run over the last 20 years. one of (if not the best) defensemen ever wore the wings jersey for such a long time and helped you guys become the model nhl franchise. but this happens occasionally.

i know its unfortunate, but its getting sickening seeing every wings fan (besides you) walking around saying "woe are the wings"/"so many injuries" etc etc all the time.

my point was that under a normal amount of injuries this year- not none entirely because thats not feasible- this team still wouldnt have been one of the top 5 in the west.

datsyuk is old, hes still awesome but hes gonna get hurt more often now. zetterburg just plays hard and gets hurt, nothing you can do about that.

and the wings dont have the depth to be a top 5 or 6 team in their conference without em, period.

theyre future looks bright though and nyquist looks like a stud, but youre one of the only realistic red wings fans around these parts.

No team can sustain that many injuries all at once and do well. And no depth? I can tell you haven't watched them much. Tatar, Jurco, Nyquist, Dekeyser, Andersson, Glendening, etc. have more than proven they will be in those roles 2-3 years down the line. Hell, nyquist is scoring at a better rate than datsyuk.

2-3 years down the line isnt now though, and yes nyquist is a stud, i said that. but you need more than 1 stud.

the rest of the guys are good filler guys, but cant push a team the way zetterberg and datsyuk can.

That's true on every single team outside of maybe pittsburgh. I don't see how detroit is different.

because their secondary guys behind zetterberg and datsyuk arent either skilled enough or experienced enough yet to keep detroit around the top.

other teams are different, even the lightning continued on without stamkos and a sometimes injured ben bishop.

ill say it once and for the last time, the red wings depth this season wasnt up to par with other teams to sustain injuries to their 2 or 3 best players.

what they did this year was still impressive, they fought hard and won some games. you just couldnt expect much else from this current roster without zetterberg and datsyuk.

the rest of the injuries didnt help, but they were little in comparison to the main two because of the lack of skilled depth.

Their secondary guys behind datsyuk and zetterberg are also injured. Wings are literally pillaging Grand Rapids just to ice 20 men.

and even if they werent, it wouldnt have mattered much. the wings rely heavily on datsyuk and zetterberg, and without them, theyre just an average team.

the rest of the injuries mean little in comparison.

At this point you're either trolling or being ignorant lol. Take the top 6 of any team and replace them with kids, you'll get the same result.
