Yeah, I can't believe they would give him that. Signing Getzlaf to that much was just horrible and did them in.

This is going to suck when Philly resigns Giroux next year

It has all but proven to me that we will need to deal with another lockout in 6 years again now.

Whats wrong with this?

Its cheaper than Brad Richards , Parise , Kovalchuk , and a few others.

Getzlaf is a top 10 , arguably top 5 center and Perry is a top 5 RW.

Parise $7.5
Richards $6.7
Rick Nash $7.8
Kovalchuk $6.6

No it's not. The only players with a bigger cap hit than Perry and Getzlaf = Crosby, Malkin, and Ovechkin. Eric Staal is making the same as Getzlaf.

but cap hit isnt Anaheim's concern , its salary.

From Anaheim's standpoint I see it as something that needed to be done. They had no choice, players of the calibre need to be retained, regardless of cost.

This may give Anaheim way less wiggle room, but in the long run they have locked up 2 elite players, which should keep them competitive for some time.

What I worry about is the stability of the league. I do not think money like this can keep being shelled out.

These types of deals will all but guarantee another lockout when this CBA expires. This may be a win for Anaheim, but they set a dangerous precedent that will serve as the foundation (along with other deals) that will destabilize the league even more so than it already is.

I really cringe when I see deals like these because the consequences of them go far beyond one team, they shake the entire league.

2 players = 1/4 of their cap space. Think long term ...

It's going to be for every other owner now when you have players like Giroux, Kane, and Toews who are going to be looking for deals like this.

And the ducks may be losing players like Selanne and Koivu to free up space, but there are a hell of a lot of holes on the team that they are going to have to fill with not much cap space. Don't forget Fowler gets a big raise next year too

I wish I could write in a manner this concise. It took me a paragraph to say the same thing pretty much lol.

Koivu is staying.

Selanne 90% gone :(

Lydman 100% gone.

Thats at least 7.5M free cap space. We have about 6 Million after the perry signing.

So regardless we will have around 13M cap space next year... thats quite a bit.

Players looking for extensions next year that are comparable:
Malkin
Datsyuk
Giroux
Sedins
Vanek
Lundqvist
Gaborik
Kessel
Miller
Letang

This is going to turn very ugly.
