Good fellow Canadian team Ottawa, helping us out.

Essentially we moved up in the draft, got our 3rd pick back that we traded for Schmidt, and gave the 3rd Winnipeg gave up to give Schmidt.

Cut 1.5m in cap, for a solid 3rd pairing dman. Basically a poolman with a capfriendly contract and still a rfa. Get younger, mobile, flexible, basically get someone more effective than Hamonic.

10/10 trade.

I hope more trades happen, any staff pushing hard for Dickinson? Poolman? Motte?

Hopefully Motte can net a 2nd or early 3rd. Poolman and Dickinson are both cap dumps, teams would be dumb to take them on without us adding.

Sometimes no move is better than a move for sake of moving. Probably meant the return for others were underwhelming or not enough. I think motte's return was pretty low, but probably did it anyway cuz his agent probably wanted some absurd number and didn't wanna lose him for nothing. Gonna be a huge blow to our motto line... Hopefully Lockwood finally makes the NHL next season

well that's the thing, trading Motte is a clear sign of a sell and that management won't compete for the playoffs. but teams were breaking the bank for good players with good contracts, and we could have extracted a genuine king's ransom for Miller. that guy isn't staying when his contract ends so waiting until the offseason means his value will go down by quite a bit.

Miller priced himself out, no contender has enough assets to trade for him. it'd be dumb to sell him now for a very underwhelming return. If he was a UFA, 100% he would've been traded for a shitty return cuz something is better than nothing. However he still got 1 more year left, so they can still trade him in the off season or next deadline, and also have the option to talk to his agent to figure out how much it would cost to extend. His contract value goes down because a team trading for him would not get an option to rent him twice or trade him again, but as a player he clearly elevated himself to off set that. I don't think there's a team available that was willing to give kings ransom for the player and value of contract at the same time this year.
