So let's enable the homeless. So more ppl can decide to be...homeless. Well done dirty. You won the internet for today. And you now sound like a true socialist.

I'd like to mention, notley proposed some new big budget for subsidized housing for Alberta.

the idea that homelessness is a decision is utter crap....

Yes there are people who are homeless because they misspend financial support on feeding things like addiction.

IMO we need to spend less money on giving out cash to the poor, but we need to spend WAY more money on social support overall, like providing government funded addiction treatment program and social reintegration.

i do completely agree however that there is a problem with corruption in the government though and higher taxes do not equal higher social benefit in a straight line.

I don't want higher taxes but i do want higher levels of social benefit for those left behind. and throwing cash at them has clearly not been an answer. what we need is addiction treatment, mental health treatment, cheaper access to education and a government that will fight for good deals with suppliers.

Maslow's Hierarchy of needs. You cannot expect people to get a job, and be productive members of society if they have no food or shelter and are more worried about getting stabbed at night than applying to safeway. I do agree that the issues start at the top.

You can't even apply to most jobs without a fixed address, and access to a phone or e-mail.

let alone trying to go to an interview when you only have the clothes on your back and no where to shower.

There are so many obstacles to these people "just getting a job". However giving these people X $ per month wont solve it.

Sadly there is no party to vote for that brings the solution we actually need

Agreed. Spending money on better social programs that provide people with support and education would be much more effective than cash.

the whole mentality of how we solve social disbalance is a complete shit show

"Natives are sniffing gas on reserves this is a terrible epidemic!"

"I know! we will make gas cheaper on reserves than anywhere else in the country! This will give them more free money to help them out of poverty!'"

cus that makes sense..

It's how it should be! Put aside our differences for the greater good.

I think most conservatives and liberals (in canada) both believe in social welfare programs.

the difference is that in the face of rampant corruption libs say screw it raise the taxes and help the people even if some of it gets lost on the way.

While Cons feel we give enough its up to the government to manage it better.

In a way both philosophies are actually wrong, because neither of them force our governments to do a better job of getting the money where it is intended to go.
the libs give them more money to squander and the cons let them maintain the status quo.

both parties are so handicapped by bi-partisanship that even if they were trying (which they arent) they couldn't get anything done.

I have no idea what the answer is, but sadly, its not voting.
