yeah that's what he was known for in the org, that's why i thought it was surprising that he got let go. I think Rutherford fired him to get rid of the problems the org was facing, when Smyl said that everyone was starting to point fingers at each other and playing the blame game. It got more clear when Gear released his statement, something he didn't really need to do imo. So i think it's more of a personal reason than the the lack of job itself, since Rutherford isn't even in Vancouver yet, and he didn't even want to meet them in person before deciding to let them go.
All of Gear's RFA signings have been bomb. It wasn't Gear's job to sign players or pursue who he wants, that was Benning's decision to make. Gear's job was to formulate and structure contracts based on what he needed to do. UFA's are completely different than RFA's cuz they're competing with other markets in short amount of time, and you don't have years to prepare for it, rather it's like Benning sayin, hey im planning to sign x in FA, this is what his agent told me is being offered by better teams, what do we need to do to make it work? aka. term & $$$.

Keeping up with teams like Canes, Bruins etc. Couldn't say that few weeks ago, even with a more healthier team. Bruce is definitely using Demko's godtending to its fullest.

i get both sides though, obviously change was gonna have to happen but it happened way too late. Firing Gear before Rutherford even meeting him or having few days to think on it is also questionable, but then again we don't have the same resources as Rutherford does. Let's just hope that it's not gonna be something similar to firing gilman and then hiring fucking weisbro to do fuck all but be a butt buddy.
