He said keep the 3 and wait for something to happen in the early season and move 1 at that point

Buffalo could take Hiller, Johnson is a career backup and Lehner has only 30 wins in the league.. Hiller could play the same role in rebuilding Buffalo as he did in Calgary

That could be a good partner. Riding 3 goalies seems really awkward.

It's honestly the worst position to be overloaded in. There's only 2 nets in practice and 1 net in a game, so having a 3rd guy up just reduces the amount of 'reps' the goalies get. Definitely more awkward than carrying a couple extra forwards or defensemen because they can just slide into drills and at least they are competing with NHLers for full practices.

And then we have Gillies and McDonald looking good too. Really good problem to have though, we could be the Nucks and have no goalies at all.

Glad the days are gone when Leland freaking Irving was our only hope.

Yep for sure, really ideal the situation we got. Definitely have a good pipeline for goalies now and if guys dont pan out we arent scrambling to try and find replacements. Hopefully with Gillies/McDonald we can leave them in the minors and 'over season' them

im a hiller fan as well, though i would like to see more of ramo before i would give up on him. hiller has had some real solid stretches both with anaheim and flames. and how could you give up on him after what he did last season. its a love that is growing in my opinion and will only continue to as i believe he has more potential than he showed.

"Problem" is Ortio is the most valuable and has potentially the highest ceiling of the 3, and won't be able to pass through waivers. They're all good, but there's 3 of them. Gotta move somebody, even if they're all serviceable! Likely they all start in the NHL, they wait till one steals the show, while shopping Ramo and Hilller. The rumour is Hiller's the most likely one to move, being shopped, and Ramo was just signed this summer anyway. Ortio could be a solid fantasy snipe depending on how the first few weeks go...

Yep unfortunately for us Ortio is on a 1-way making 600k/year. There are tons of teams out there that would bring him in to be the full-time backup and hope he develops into something more. That alone pretty much makes it Ramo or Hiller that has to go. I liked our tandem last year and wouldnt have minded the same this year (and then making this decision next year) but unfortunately that's not how Ortios contract worked out.

Ortio's not on a one way, but it's guaranteed he gets claimed by someone if they send him down.
