Yeah I mean I'll take the 3rd without complaint but the fact that Babcock signed with Toronto barely a month before his contract was up.... that shit needed to at least be waived if he had no more NHL games to coach with the team.

really though the leafs were already in contact with him while he was under contract with the wings which is illegal i believe
i think thats why they added the compensation for exact situations like that

but when u fire a guy hes gone u dont get compensation thats retarded but if a team steals a top staff guy sure why not

It's really quite bush-league for the NHL to botch this rule.

It should have been very simple:

If the person is still under contract and currently employed and decides to leave, you get compensated. If he's been "relieved of his duties" or is about to become a free-agent then there's no compensation.

you shouldn't get compensated when someone is being promoted to a better job

ASST GMs aren't going to sign year to year contracts and apply yearly

They're getting promoted, but to a different organization which hurts your organization directly because you lose a valued member and indirectly because now your competition gains a valued member.

Why shouldn't you be compensated if that person is still under contract with you?

If you leave your company to work for another, should they be compensated?

If you fire an employee and they go for work elsewhere. Should you be compensated despite it being your choice to let them go?
