Don't know yet if Varlamov is really on the market.

I know their caps count during the off-season but I wonder if they'll be able to find their way around it with some loop-hole in the CBA lol.

Plus you're allowed to go over by 10% of the cap in the off-season, which is now 7.3M.

You have to be under by day one of the season and you can't do that with LTIR. The 10% rule is just to facilitate juggling players around. They need to clear 6.5m or more depending on the dollar amount stamkos is demanding. Once they sign him they then lose all leverage in doing so.

Even worse, they can't buy Horton, Lupul, or Robidas out if they don't pass their physicals, which they would not pass if they're in a state that would put them on LTIR day one.

They're effectively building a team with a $59 million cap right now.
