Benning is a hoot.

Garland is a very good player but OEL is 30 and has kinda sucked for a few years now.

There's a very good chance he isnt worth the contract this year, which makes you cringe at the term left....

He sucked since tochett took over. He's still a 40pt dmen during his struggling years. Oel admitted he didn't really know what he was doing on ice because his defensive structure system didn't fit his play style. The issue is bringing his defensive game back to par, hopefully Shaw will help in that aspect and greens aggressive system fits his style more like the old days

He won't be worth the contract in any year, only thing good is that he's only 30 now and as long as he's serviceable in the top 4 for the next 3 to 4 yrs, is ok cuz rest can be bought out for 1m/yr.

He takes pressure off Hughes, since last season all the other team did was focus down Hughes cuz no one else really was a threat in the backend. Also gives pp2 option as well since it was like 90% pp1 and pp2 barely did much lol

Top 9 is so sick, I'm excited. Gotta wait to see what happens on the RHD, if Holtby will be bought out or traded. If Schmidtty will be moved to add 2 affordable defensive rh dmen

Between risto, oel and Seth Jones, these gms are majorly banking on the previous system being the problem and not the player.

Big gamble considering even if they're right, they're only breaking even.

Little to no upside

if Benning is right and OEL gets his 2way game back, it's a huge win for both teams. Yotes got a RW to develop into a Garland when they should be ready to compete. Saved ton of money for the owner to not pay OEL's salary.

Canucks gets a top4D to replace Edler, and help hughes/rathbone adapt while they still develop their game. Garland is a 60+ pt player, despite the hard minutes, RFA. If he signs anywhere BELOW 5M that's a huge win, cuz a similar player through FA would cost much more. Benning patched up top 6 and top 4d by only paying 1st, 2nd and 7th while dumping 3 contracts that don't really help the team aside from Beagle. Now they can at least compete with Oilers/Flames for the 2/3 spot in pacific. They also got slight cap space from the trade, or more depending on how much Garland signs for to lock up 1 of hughes or petey if either party agrees.

OEL also had the highest CF% against elite competition despite heavily struggling and Chychurin taking over

some info about Danila Klimovich (2nd rd pick)

Pros: Excellent shot. High-end puck handling skills. Above average size. Mean streak. Ceiling is top 6 forward if he works out.
Cons: Skating. Decision-making and hockey sense. Temper. Decent chance of being a bust, otherwise a middle winger.

Apparently he has crazy temper, like freaking out at teammate for missing a pass. Being a hothead in a bad way, if he get stick checked or defended against, instead of fighting to get the puck back, he'll punch a player in the side of head that had nothing to do with the play.

yep, especially when you can save 2.5mil and it's only 50k buyout this season and 500k next.
don't need him now that garland is here. He had his chances, all the toolset... just no IQ =/ Podkolzin is already way ahead of his 2way game and hasn't even played a NHL game yet.

So many chances for Virtanen....

It still frustrates me.

Such a waste of size and speed. That is why he got so many chances. The potential to develop into a solid player when you have a base like that to work with is much higher.

He's like one of the luckiest mofo too.

Imagine being from Abbotsford and drafted to Vancouver.
Imagine being given ton of chances and opportunities to be a successful NHL player.
Imagine having the size, speed, shot to be a top 6 NHL player.
If he had stechers work ethic, he would no doubt be a great top 6 forward. Instead, he valued going to Bieber concerts with friends, rather than training, clubbing during covid, coming to camp out of shape, basically he valued having fun over his professional career. He's gonna look back when he's 30 and be like damn...

Oh well he made enough bank to buy a house in Vancouver and can probably still live a comfortable life. 6mil earnings and he's only 24.

The points you made just make things even more frustrating lol.

What a perfect opportunity to squander...... Damn.

Maybe making enough money is all that matters to him though. Some players have the talent and physical blessings but don't have much of a drive to play the sport they happen to be really good at.

All he has to do is buy property and the interest from the remaining money can allow him to live comfortably for the rest of his life.

Watch him just retire lol... You never know.

Actually after taxes and buying a nice home, I guess he would have about 1 to 2m. Dunno if that's enough for him to last his lifetime, if he wasn't smart enough now, I doubt he's smart enough to invest/spend wisely but what do I know about him to judge lol

virtanen is the kinda guy who would blow his wealth in a friend's restaurant or his own clothing brand.
